May 2, 200521 yr After seaching the message base, I have found very little about this program. Has anyone bought it?Is it any good? - especially at US$26,00 !I am a long-time (registered) user of Active Camera, but unfortunately Active Camera has a flaw which Serge says is not correctable - namely in the Southern Hemisphere, the walk-around doesn't work properly - jumps most horribly! So, therefore, I have been wondering whether "Walk and Follow" was any good? In particular, does their walk around feature work in the Southern hemisphere? Their forum (on http://www.igfly.com ) is unfortunately closed to anyone who has not yet bought their product, which is a great pity for a prospective customer.
May 2, 200521 yr Walk and Follow is very good. Its similar to Active Camera with some plusses and some negatives. The BIG PLUS'S are that you can walk around completely disattached from your plane without any tears or jerks in the scenery. And you can save your locations in a file. I can save views at the end of the runways in any airport as a file then call them up when I land there and have have have perfect approach view. And In cockpit view I save my views just like AC but they are save with each plane and I do not have to call them up after I load the plane. The views stay with each plane. On the downside there is no flyby view that you can automatically use but you can create one on the fly.And it doesnt work well with active camera because of Keyboard conficts.I like it so well that I disable Active Camera and I have not missed it.Dirkpat
May 2, 200521 yr It sounds great!I wonder why it seems to have hardly created a ripple of interest on the forums?
May 2, 200521 yr I think it is worth the money. But there was a bug apparently going around at first that caused a few people to crash. This is a new product from a Russian developer and Im not sure how good the support or future of the software is because help seems to be pretting lacking on the web site and the documentation that comes with WAF is very skimpy. So your on your own. But as for me I very happy with it and it has completly replaces AC2004 on my system.dirkpat
May 3, 200521 yr DirkpatThankyou for your comments. This bug you mention...has it been fixed?Your comments are encouraging but the percieved lack of support is worrying.Since you are obviously a registered user, you would know this... what is the forum activity like "on the other side of the password"Does anyone else have any comments?
May 3, 200521 yr Module crash was fixed 2-3 weeks ago + new patch also includes surface mode feature, so it's now possible to run on the ground relief, so you don't even need an aircraft to travel
May 3, 200521 yr Hi Stealthbomber,Could you elaborate on that a bit.I don't quite understand what you mean.
May 4, 200521 yr "so it's now possible to run on the ground relief, so you don't even need an aircraft to travel"You can lock your distance from the ground in walk mode and using your mouse and the ctrl key you can walk at any speed anywhere and you will follow the contour of the land and leave your plane behind. I could walk up a mountain and look down upon my Plane at a Hanger if I choose to.Dirkpat
September 3, 200520 yr For anyone using this product:First, I think it's awesome, and much better than Active Camera in many ways. I've combed the support forum, and the manual doesn't cover it, nor the integrated online help.Is there a way to "padlock" the view (in walk mode) on an aircraft? For instance, I want to walk a ways down the runway, and watch my aircraft during takeoff roll and climb, but want the camera to center on the airplane.Possible? I've tried everything I can think of to no avail.Thanks!-Dan _________________________________ -Dan Everette CFI, CFII, MEI 7900X OC @ 4.8GHz | ASRock Fatal1ty X299 Professional | 2 x EVGA GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 (SLI) | 32GB G.Skill DDR4 2800
September 3, 200520 yr Hi,I bought Walk & Follow a couple of weeks ago and kept getting CTD's which were related to one of the modules that it uses. This was even after the fix was applied. I therefore asked for and received a prompt refund without any argument. Its a shame because the program does work very well for wing views..Drayton
September 4, 200520 yr I bought Walk and Follow. It is a brilliant program in concept, however there's glitches galore in the program, even the patched version. I'm not returning it as I have a hunch a newer version will come a long. At least Active Camera is relatively stable at the moment. However, keep an eye on Walk and Follow. If it gets improved it might be well worth it as it does some amazing things.Lee Lee H i9 13900KF 64GB Ram 24GB RTX 4090
September 4, 200520 yr There's a new program on the market called FlyBy Module. Worth a look. I think it's under 10 bucks US$ and it has a free trial. May do what you want... maybe not.
September 4, 200520 yr "much better than Active Camera in many ways"I have both programs.W&F is great for external view (you get incredible view angles), but doesn't have so many interesting features as Active Camera in virtual cockpit.External view in AC is a bit buggy (floating objects in the background), but is sufficient for a preflight visit (I have no interest to visit the whole airfield).I find walk around in virtual cockpit easier with AC2004 (I don't like the forced mouse mode in W&F) Did you ever use AC2004 ? Does W&F have flyby, realistic head latency movements, pre-stall buffeting, scenery padlock, AI tracking + padlock. All in all I like both utilities, none is better than the other.
September 4, 200520 yr One of the best features of Walk and Follow is being able to set wing views for planes like the PMDG 747 that can be loaded every time. Active Camera was supposed to offer that, but hasn't. However, one of the glitches of W&F is that when you use it, objects around you including AI start doing strange visual things, like upside down planes and other weirdness. It all goes away with an unistall of W&F.Lee Lee H i9 13900KF 64GB Ram 24GB RTX 4090
