December 11, 201411 yr Hi, Sorry I didn't see this thread until today. I discovered back in May that the database could be built by going into safe mode. Here's a link to a thread started back in 2010 which pretty much covers every aspect of the problem: http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?209096-APChart-in-Windows-7-64bit&highlight=ApChart Refer to Post #17 for the solution. But the story is not over yet; after installing some ORBX terrain areas I rebuilt the database in safe mode but the information was not properly updated. Judging by the time it took it seems as though the database was, in fact, rebuilt but the old data remained. I'm thinking about deleting the existing database and seeing what happens. If anyone experiences something similar please post (preferably with a solution). Jim F.
December 11, 201411 yr Author Jim....i've read that you need to edit your scenery config file if you have addon scenery to have the databases rebuilt propery. It involves copying all of the standard scenery entrys and putting them below the addon scenery and pasting them in there. Then rebuild. Make a copy of the original scenery.cfg and then revert to that when the build is completed. theres a post on the web regarding this....I read it but didn't capture the link. If i happen to stumble on it I'll post it in here. i've done allot of searching regarding this issue. I end up with 5 pages of links and apparently I never got to the the one you linked to. Crap....that would have saved me a couple days LOL. In any event. This was a pretty good addon for when it was done. I'm sure it took him quite a while to get it all working right. Actually a pretty nice job for a freeware. I normally use airport charts and look at the map then use the taxiway signs, but as I get older, either my monitor isn't good enough or my eyes are shot LOL. Thanks again.
December 11, 201411 yr Hi Doug, Thanks for the info but I'm not sure I understand it correctly. Here's my scenery library as shown in Scenery Config Editor: The above and below parts are causing me confusion. Rather than asking you to explain, could you just suggest what changes I should make, based upon the image. I did locate the existing database files down there somewhere in the App Data and deleted them. I went into safe mode and rebuilt the database but it still showed the default airport layouts instead of the modified. I was suspecting that only the default and "Addon Scenery" folders were being searched. I'll hold off on doing anything until I hear from you. Thanks! Jim F. Hi again Doug, Now if I can just get this posted before you respond! I'm thinking of raising the priority of Add On Scenery to the top of the list (highest priority) and see what happens. Is this sort of what you had in mind? Ap Chart is probably the best Add On I have; at5 least in my estimation. The majority of my flying is in GA from one airport to another in relatively short hops. I use a yoke and I've edited all of my aircraft so that when ever I press the left trigger on my yoke Ap Chart is displayed. I choose my destination airport and the layout, parking, and elevation is displayed. I don't have to interrupt by referring to the map or any other source of info. Now if it just displayed the ILS frequency data...! Jim F.
December 12, 201411 yr Author I was never able to find the link i was at. I would just boot up in safe mode and try the normal proceedure then. Build button, update button , then build again.
December 12, 201411 yr I looked at the db file with Notepad. You get a lot of garbage but in the middle of it you will see all of the scenery.cfg entries. All of my non-default sceneries are listed along with the default sceneries. I tried looking at it with SqLite which is supposed to open db files but it said it was an unsupported type. t must be some non-standard type of file. Bob.
December 13, 201411 yr Hi, Well, I finally got ApChart to display the correct info for an addon airport. One at least; I haven't checked others. I sort of did what Doug suggested (maybe exactly). I made a copy of Scenery.cfg. I opened Scenery.cfg in notepad. I cut all of the default scenery starting with [Area.001] and ending with [Area.120] and pasted it to the very bottom of the file. I rebuilt the database in Safe mode and restarted Windows. I deleted this edited Scenery.cfg and renamed the copy. I started FSX with a flight which had the aircraft in a parking space which which was modified from the default. The ApChart display now showed the aircraft in the proper location. Incidentally, I had exactly the same number of airports as before; I thought surely there would be a change in the number with the new scenery compared to when FSX was last updated. Jim F.
