May 13, 200521 yr Aplogise to Jim, I was getting you a mixed up with another poster, who does not own FE and and I got confused by the quote of his post you made. I am not particulary good at reading if the truth was known.Yes you did make it clear you like FE and I thank you for that.It is always a danger when one posts a bit from somebody's thread in their thread. I was trying and failed to justify "Michaels" actions as done to protect others. It's a pity you did not notice my mistake or intentions and hope you accept my apology. I'll correct the post that puts an ufair light on you.I tried to edit it Jim but the period to edit has expired. Rediculess; first time I've found a forum that does not repect that errors are made and that errors should be able to be corrected for the sake of diplomacy and good will.I did think, and probably wrongly that I had put the "Jim" in a reasonal light to defend his case and hopefuly to make "super" feel a little better. It seems always to be the case as soon as one tries to do any diplomacy on forums it backfires rather fast with errrors compounding like a back-firing gun.Obviously most pepole read better than I do so most readers will realize my mistake and the ones like me who don't read so good will proably not be too worried anyway.Anyway, no hard feeling here. Just trying to put "Jim" not you in a better light while respecting "super" was a little "hurt" by the other "Jim" and well.... with my bad reading it got messed up even more.Again I apologise to the real JIMPeterPeter
May 13, 200521 yr I can't believe how complicated this thread has become.Someone bought a product. Loved it to bits. Wanted to share his enthusiasm about it with everyone else. Lots of other people chimed in to say they loved it to bits too.IanBeware: Low Post Count ;)
May 14, 200521 yr It will all make sense to me after a few more "beverages" LOLI didn't mean to get involved & cause any confusion, my apologies. The "other" Jim
May 14, 200521 yr How many posts do I have? Guess I'll have to hit the "post" button to find out. :) I've been posting here at AVSIM for about two years mostly on the BFU forum and reading the forum a little longer. Don't have any affiliation with Flight One or Peter at all.I just completed my first flight with FE last night before going to bed.I wasn't too impressed with the screen shots for FE when I saw them on the product page. We've all seen these shots where the developers or beta testers will turn everything up sacrificing flyability for some spectacular shots to lure in customers. I decided however that since this is a Flight One product that I didn't have anything to lose (30 day money back guarantee) so I downloaded the utility.Bias? Well maybe. I've purchased a lot of products from Flight One and haven't been disappointed in any of them. I chose to start my flight from one of their products (IWI scenery). I decided to give my flight a little rainy and stormy weather so I could really see what FE has to show. The view from the ground was spectacular. solid overcast (using a couple layers of clouds) and light drizzle. I chose a relatively short flight across water to another island. After climbing to altitude the clouds were dense with lots of volume. I found myself flying in between towering cumulus with ripped off tops and lots of small pieces floating in between. Never seen clouds like that in FS before.Descent: I decided to descend a little early since I was going for a visual approach and would need to look closely in the haze and rain to see the airport. I broke out of the clouds at about 5,000 ft and what a surprise! The water was slate grey with white caps on the waves. Just exactly the type of water I'd expect on such a stormy rainy day. Not sure if this was in the design of FE but it sure made a believer out of me.Frame rates? I still got a hit from having clouds (I was using the Dxt3 clouds) but it took more clouds to produce the same hit I usually get with standard FS clouds.Truely amazing.
May 14, 200521 yr <>First...no problem here! Onward and upward...however, you quoted my name four times in your post so there was no possibility of my assuming you had made a mistake.<>Gladly accepted. But if I might offer some advice in the most friendly and constructive manner...in dealing with the general public you will run into all kinds of people...some who are polite and some who are not...some who are correct and some who are utterly wrong. But in my experience "engaging" the impolite and the wrongheaded ones in posting duels is a no win proposition for the developer.Better IMHO to ignore impoliteness and to simply correct those who are wrong.I would like to add that the folks at Flight 1 and Real Air are masterful at dealing with issues on these forums.Let me just respond to your apology with one of my own. Of course, I only complimented your product but with respect to the "marketing post" issue, I did not intend to be critical of that practice...and don't think I was, but posts can and often are misinterpreted.Just to make my point clear, I for one, could care less if "marketing posts" appear in these threads. I would imagine that Avsim management might care but that is THEIR business...not mine.As for low post count contributors, I did not intend to demean them. They have as much right to post here as anyone. However, in life, one learns to pay more attention to those who have acquired credibility which can only be accomplished by creating a "body of contributions" over time.Everyone who has ever posted here, at one time, had one post to their credit...including me, of course. Some of those one time posters have proven their brilliance over time. So we watch and we wait.Kindest regards,Jim
May 14, 200521 yr Thanks Jim, fully understood and I agree 100% with your words of wisdom. Wise indeed. Thanks again for being so supportive and understanding.Peter
May 14, 200521 yr Very much appreciated for your detailed and supportive post and I'm very pleased you like our product. I like IWI too and think it's a very unique and special produce thanks to Chirs Wilkes who made the Islands of the West Indies. Great product. Peter
May 15, 200521 yr That's really great news. I first I was a little hesitant to buy something that "only" did clouds and water. After using it for a week, it has become one of my favorite add-ons and won't ever play the sim again without it. The screen shots I looked at before buying just do not do the product justice. Between Flight Environment, USA Roads and FS Traffic it's a completely different visual experience.I look forward to all your future developments!!
May 15, 200521 yr Anyone care to comment on jennifer's query below:>I've read most of the posts about FE and am still trying to>decide whether to buy it. I hesitate because I can't see an>improvement over Chris Willis's FS Skyworld. All the>excellent shots I've seen on various threads are as good but>no better than what I see with FS Skyworld. May 15, 200521 yr Thanks for this question. All I can say is what one person thinks looks like a good screen shot another does not. It's a subjective thing not objective most of the time. The only objective thing you can do is decide to listen to the people who have bought FE and obvously it's well liked by those people; and to accept with comments like "screen shots do it no justic" or not to listen.I can appreciate there are still a lot of doubtful people out there who think maybe this thread is engineered or manipulated but the fact is that these are all FE customers who have paid for the product and enjoying it.Clearly demonstrated; how do we do that. I spent weeks making the screen shots which I think look great but people say "nothing special" I've got other people who say great, donwnload the package come on forums say it's great (what more of demonstration is there than that; say the screen shots do it no justic" and we still get suspecious people.Such is life but really I don't know what else to do other than to say maybe once in a while trust people who are in the know. The only people in the know here are the one's who own the package and they are all saying get it.Those that don't know say prove it.All so often I'm in the game experiencing FE and thinking proudly to myself "this is great and the clouds are the best I've done yet" then I capture the shot and think "darn", not nearly as good as it felt when running with animations at 20 fpsAt other times I've seen great screen shots of 2rd pary water (some months ago) downloaded it and fired up the game and thought "hey, this is not what the screen shots showed me)With this in mind I wanted the screen shots for FE to be honest so I made clouds that worked well in game and not that simpley worked well for the odd miss-leading screen shot. I've got hundreds of screen shots of earlier versions of my water for example and even clouds that look increditble in screen shots but feel rubish in game.Since it is my feelings that honesty pays in the long run then by making it all work so well in game I strongly feel that I should do what I know works for me and trust that THAT will also work for eveyone else.As a result it means word and mouth is the only thing that sells the product; or at least the main thing. But for me that's the best form of advertising. And it is showing in the sales figures. Sales are going up weekly not down. Everybody is happy including me. That's what a good business deal is about " a mutual benefit " with both parties satisfied. So far it's working just fine. Not possible. It's a subjective thing clearly. Something based on opinion and ownership.Sorry, all I can say is take a chance once in a while and trust what people tell you. These forums are after all for advice and exchanging ideas to help others.
May 15, 200521 yr Gary,I was sceptical about the purchase as I already had FSWater and FS Skyworld. I couldn't possibly begin to imagine that another cloud and water package could improve on either one of these.I was wrong. FE transforms the clouds and water into a work of art. Peter has obviously worked very hard on the material and has suceeded in making the sim even more realistic than ever. And I'm not trying to diminish Chris Willis's efforts either. His work was extremely well done but Peter has made the clouds and water almost breathtaking. I no longer have those blocks of unpainted water textures when flying at high altitude though that may be due to visual distances set within the program or other factors at play here.Buy it, try it and if you don't like it for whatever reason, Flight1 will happily refund your purchase price. I don't think you can go wrong. And just so no one gets the wrong impression, I have no affiliation with Flight1, Flight Environment, AVSIM, Peter Wilding or any other company, corporation, entity or animal as relates to this thread. :-roll
May 15, 200521 yr Good People, I am also interested in purchasing this fine product. I have FS Skyworld installed at this time. Do I have to do anything before I install FE? Jack
May 15, 200521 yr As a Photographer for over 50 years, I'm aware of what happens with screenshots. Its a similar thing which happens with photoprocessors, so amatures send in pictures, and get junk back. The autoprocessing system tries to make all pictures a middle gray average. A Custom processor, takes a lot more time and care, and the same picture looks dramatically different. When we make screenshots, we all use different programs, which create their own differences. Then some modify them before using them on our own screens. Even if we think they are perfect, even those which I enhance in Photoshop, are done on My system, using My 21" monitor, with my settings. Then, when seen on others systems, HOW they appear depends greatly on their Monitor settings. We can use the highest graphics settings and best boards, but if the viewer uses a 15" or even 13" Monitor. This compresses all the detail, makes images look darker, lighter, bluer, redder, greener, etc. If RGB settings that are off, screen contrast too high or low, too Dark or Bright images will look drastically different than we see them.A screenshop made on a Monitor set too bright, then looks too Dark on one set for ideal contrast and brightness, etc.... The average person may not even know where to begin to adjust settings, just using the ones which came with the system. As the monitor ages, they may never even change settings. If mine is set too blue, when others see a screenshot, it can look too red or green, etc..Dont recall the name, but believe Ive seen a program which can set all monitor settings to the ideal for each monitor, and users can be very surprised at the difference. A search might turn it up or someone here might remember the name. Bob
