Flight Environment *FANTASTIC*

Featured Replies

I'm sure this has been said before but I just wish to express it again. Yesterday I purchased Flight 1 Flight Environment. Absolutely fabulous piece of work and worth every penny. The sky and water now look amazing and what's even funnier is that my frame rates went up.

Yep, have to agree. Flight Environment is one of those add ons that on the face of it doesn't seem quite as exciting as a new plane, yet really does make a difference.I was trying out FlyTampa's Miami airport scenery demo the other night. It happened to be an early morning flight, and as I climbed out over the Atlantic the sun was just coming up reflecting off the clouds and sparkling off the water. It really did look fantastic - so much so that I called my wife in to take a look. 'Yeah, great..are you going to get off that machine or what? I need to send some emails..'Oh well, at least some of us can appreciate it:D Ian

Thanks guys, I'm glad you are appreciating it. Worked really hard on it and we are also going to provide an upadate soon Free of charge that adds more clouds and water options. The new clouds are IMO our best work yet and we are really excited of getting it out there. Probably in about 4 weeks I would think? There will be regular upgrades to expand the cloud and water selections.Peter Wilding (Developer of FE)

I have to agree that it is a fantastic addon, I've had it a few weeks now and my clouds, sky and water have never looked so good. It's one of those addons that take FS to another level in terms of detail and realism.

Ditto !!!! It's just GREAT Frank Bevard

Does the update include a "dark night" option similar to that offered by Skyworld?Bruceb

Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." Gandalf: "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."

How automated is its use? It seems there are tons of options. Is it able to figure out what colors and clouds to use based on location, date, and weather all by itself. Can I just install it and let it run itself? Thanks,Thomas

Hi and thanks again for all the good feedback. It's very automated and very easy to use.Full automatic and manual modes are available.Yes you can install and let it run.Simple and it works. Most of the beta testers and myself most of the time use randomized modes but once in a while you see a cloud type created and think, "I want that next time", so you keep it or save it and use it the next time; until you want another change. Then you run randomize and see how it looks; and the same follows. Some times it's nice to see a cloud you make yourself and you can do that too. When the update 2 is available soon you will get nearly 16,000 types of cumulus, stratus, wispy cloud combinations. There are hundreds of clouds producing thousands of looks; plus sky; plus water and the over all look is a changing evironment either randomized or by choice.Peter

Just to add something to Peter's answer, yes the installer will figure out which are the best american clouds to suit to a specific location........?????Were still working on Oklahoma clouds.- just kidding - No seriously,I was in the Navy - and have obviously looked a lot at the water / sky - and i can tell you that when looking at the sky and i didn't know what the location was, i couldn't tell you where i was, just by looking at the clouds. To work out your location you need a sextant, a map, a compass and a bright star - or a gps, but never by looking at the shape of the clouds. However, what the program does do, is give you a LOT of different variations of cloud textures to suit a specific kind of weather, ie. stormy, whispy, white, volumetric, etc. Different textures for sky, dawn, dusk and night. Different textures for the water and different reflections or waves. And all of that in a VERY simple to use program, which allows you to randomize, build and even save your favorite combinations.regards,Anthony Voshttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/116086.jpghttp://members.home.nl/vos69/logofe.jpg

I have yet to get Flight Environment as I am really happy with the results I have now and I was not pleased with FSWater (nothing to do with your work Peter, it is a great addon, just not to my liking) and I can get results that look very similar to what I see in the above shots. While I really do appreciate the posts from "users" of this addon, I see quite a few posts from beta team members (all postive of course) and in my mind this doesn't help as I view their posts as completely biased and subjective. I find it interesting that of all the payware products I have seen tested on the forums, this one seems to have the most beta test members "hawking" it's features on outside forums. This is just an observation and not a slant, so please don't take it that way. It almost comes across as "they" are the developers and not Peter. It seems like a great product and one day I'll probably give it a shot, but I just find this a bit odd is all.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International

I've tried all the different types of water add-ons but IMO nothing beats Flight Environment. Especially since they worked so hard trying to hide the horrible water draw distance bug. That was the biggest reason for me to buy it considering I spend most of my flying time above 20,000 ft
