Captain Sim 777

Noel,

Looks like about 19 FPS out of KSMF (same with NCA or with Global) for me with my settings: http://www.robainscough.com/P3D_V2.html  ... if I drop autogen density back I'm at about 21-22 FPS.

Other locations such as LFKB I'm at 25 FPS.  And then there is KSEA ... about 15 FPS there.

(all low 200-240 kts < 8000 ft)

I'd be interested to see how the CS 777 fairs on a base install -- no other add-ons scenery installed.

Cheers, Rob.

Thanks for that Rob.  With your current settings it seems like not a good fit for me--by the time you take it to a big terminal in a dense metro area it's going to be pretty bad.

Have you played much w/ dialing back building shadows so that they only Cast but not receive--in metro areas it seems to help some.   Also, in bigger airports I notice Airline traffic density can be a big impactor too.

One difference between FSX rendering and P3D I find is that in FSX you could see pretty big changes when changing different sliders, whereas in P3D sometimes I find almost no difference between so many medium to ultra high settings it's hard to tell if there is any effect.

Agree, just to be clear I never said the CS 777 was great on performance, it's about what I expected given it's complexity and most of the performance drop seems to be all from VC (about 33% hit when compared to the Aerosoft A320).  External and other views are fine, lock at 30 fps.

When I had FSX running the PMDG 777 with no autogen (all photoscenery) was around 16-19 fps with no shadows at all.  The CS 777 isn't as complex as the PMDG 777, but it's pretty close ... and the hanging headsets that animate with aircraft motion is a pretty cool for the CS 777 ... but I'm sure that adds to the FPS hit also.  Anyway, whatever is hurting FPS in the CS 777 it's all in the VC.

Oddly the weather radar doesn't seem to induce much of a hit (about 1-2 fps).

Cheers, Rob.

Sure, which is why I asked, to find out how it was on performance.   I was trying to see what my next move would be if any to go beyond CoolSky Super MD80, & QW757 which has a much inferior performance:complexity ratio.   They have sacrificed some pixel density or something in the Super MD-80 for great VC performance--often times when you toggle VC off for full outside forward view there is no difference in frame rate displayed at all.   I do miss the PMDG T7 which I'm afraid will be tough to fly out of airports where T7's would normally fly out of.

The Aerosoft A320 and the Majestic Q400 have the best complexity to FPS ratio out of the AC I own.  Not sure exactly what the issue is the CS 777 ... all the MFDs?  I recall having similar performance issues with the Phenom 100 ... when I figured out how to turn off one of the MFD my frame rate doubled.

Cheers, Rob.

I installed ORBX KPSP tonight-miraculously good performance for such a lovely job it appears--though it was a night hop to KSBA in QW757 so I didn't get to see everything but the mesh resolution looked impressive.   I found ORBX KTVL to be rather disappointing by comparison, both visually and performance-wise.

Do you flight the A320 w/ stick or yoke?  I have an old but unused CH Fightstick USB but am loathe to use it.   Let us know if you find a way to sweeten up CS777's performance.

Yoke (Saitek Cessna Pro) ... CS 777 has many more functional systems over the A320 (the overhead is pretty static), but the A320 was a lot easier to program for my GoFlight gear than the CS 777 which used klid values to indicate key triggers and sometimes requiring delays prior to a klid reset (= 0).

I'll keep an eye out for CS updates, the folks at CS have been very nice to deal with even considering the time zone differences ... I've found them to be very responsive with the L1011 and the 777.

Cheers, Rob.

I'd like to pick up something beyond just the four planes I use for P3D which are QW757, CS Super MD-80, RA T Duke & Lancair Legacy.  I've been spoiled by these which are all easily handled by my machine in P3D.  CS777 would be great but I don't think I could stomach the performance penalty.  Have you tried the dated Super MD-80?

CS released a v1.6 for 777 for P3D ... installed but haven't tested it yet.

Cheers, Rob.

I'm not exactly sure what was changed in the latest release but they did change some code which covers a multitude of sins.  I just finished flying with the latest update on my favorite and test route from Chicago to St Louis.  FPS seemed to be just a bit higher in the VC but I've always gotten between 18 and 25 in the VC.  It was the lowest at the commercial airport addons which is normal.  The AP seemed to work much, much better.  It landed flawlessly after getting the 3 Green.  I also used ASN and all of my scenery is photo scenery stuff from MSE V2.  Wingviews and spot views were in the upper 40's and 50's.  Nothing spectacular but anything above 25 most of the time is total pleasure for my flight simming.  I did turn off turbulence and cloud icing in ASN as those two features just do not work well with the CS777 and the PMDG777.  It the turbulence is realistic where even the AP has a problem holding the approach course, then flight simming is absolutely no fun.

Hi Rich,

You made it to 2015!  Way to go!  LOL!  It wasn't a review but my two-cents worth.  One thing that upset me was the loss of the AA repaint I had installed.  Not sure it it is yours or not.  Got it from the AVSIM Library.  I saved it and it will be easy to reinstall but one of the negatives when upgrading.

I agree about the turbulence in the CS777, but I have no issues with it with the PMDG T7. The only issue other than with the CS777 I have with ASN is with EZdok, but I can control that by reducing the effects to 25%

Thanks
