December 25, 201411 yr Having used Steam now for a few years with the Train Simulator series, I've often encountered problems after RSC or DTG (the companies that have written the Train Simulator series) have decided to send updates via steam when logging in or running the above mentioned. We as a community have made many changes and mods to FSX over the years and so have 3rd party developers. What's left to be seen is if these mods and changes will get damaged forcing a complete install or at least a "file verify" as Steam calls it. Third party Train Sim developers have run into this and usually run "offline" when using the sim. When that first update comes, we'll all know! Just my thoughts from past experience! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Hoping For CAVU --- Chris
December 25, 201411 yr I thought about disabling the auto-updates for my install, but it will be interesting to watch. I don't know how far they are going to push the code before releasing their own version of flight-sim, but it's nice to have FSX in my Steam library.
December 25, 201411 yr As someone whose every aircraft.cfg and panel.cfg file has been modified from 'stock' as well as many texture files reduced in size an myriad other 'customizations', the possibility of having those items over-written by some updater is a very big concern for me. Thus, I am certain that if and when I get around to installing my purchased FSX-SE, it will be kept isolated from my FSX install and probably only used occasionally for beta testing in the FSX/P3D V2.4/FSX-SE environments or some online flying with the A2A Comunity members. My 'primary' FSX use is flying online via the DTP servers with the 91st Bombardment Group and unless FSX-SE offers the capability of "Direct Connect", as FSX does, there is zero possibility that I would use FSX-SE in that situation. January 2, 201511 yr My grandson just bought me the Steam Version of FSX for Christmas. I am worried about installing it for fear of it over writing my original highly modified FSX files. Should I make another account in Win7 and install Steam FSX in that account to avoid any corruption to my FSX Acceleration ? What is the risk....
January 2, 201511 yr I think you can right click on the game and go to it's properties and tell it not to do Auto Updates..
