Eaglesoft Citation X 2.0 in FSX SE

Well, I have a pretty good idea how it works... and I have a pretty good idea of where the actual problem lies. Which is why your statements astound me. They're completely and totally inaccurate in their conclusions. What the DRM code does isn't anything that the core OS shouldn't allow to happen. The fact people see problems on their system speaks against the OS... if you know what the DRM actually does. I'm telling you, as one who interacted with Flight1 to use their DRM on the Eaglesoft Citation X... there is nothing wrong with the DRM code. The flaw lies in the OS itself and the only way to get beyond it is to disable some crap code in the OS.

1 - Win8 does not 'use better code'. It uses a ton of original code from Win7 and prior (trust me, it was not rewritten from the ground up!). They modified user rights in Win8 to be even more restrictive than Win7, which was more restrictive than Win Vista, which was more restrictive than WinXP. (See a trend??)

2 - Win8's primary change: unified code with their cell phone OS. No, seriously... that was their primary goal with Win8, to make one OS across multiple platforms.

Corporate users, the primary OS market above all else... has flat out rejected Win8. Completely and entirely. They will not endorse, install, use it. It is worthless to the single largest OS market out there. That should speak volumes. Even with Microsoft supposedly offering Win10 free to those who own Win8... corporate users are still not moving to Win8. Even Win8.1 hasn't changed their position.

I completely agree that win8 is not the most popular SO around. But i´m not trying to measure the popularity of the SO, but find why it works or not. Some times, a few tweaks comes in hand, but it works.

Well, I have a pretty good idea how it works... and I have a pretty good idea of where the actual problem lies.

Mr. Ed, before anything, thanks for your participation. It´s the kind of debate i´m searching for the right conclusions. I ask for your patience too :)

You say my conclusions are innacurate, but as stated, i´m working with what i have in hand. The installers, my knowledge with developing apps with java and the win8 SO. A developer with access to the DRM would be great on this debate, but need to be more specifc than "win8 is horrible".

By your statment explaining what drm is doing, one thing i can understand for sure: the problem is not with the addon (the plane), correct? It´s with the relation between f1 DRM and win8. -- No matter if the origin of the issues is win8 but a problem between this two fellows --

If so, please enlighten us, with your knowledge in the matter, where the problem really is if it´s not in the DRM? It appears that you know the answer already. If it´s not  with the DRM system, i think there is no problem in saying it here. A better, tecnic and strait answer than "win8 junk code" if it´s possible. Are you saying that the problem is with user rights? What part specific? For your statement, it looks like DRM system is trying to manipulate user data that win8 now won´t allow. I asked this before, but everybody fails to answer this, just saying "it´s win8".

Thanks!

Ok... I can't go into details... it would not be appropriate to describe how the DRM functions. I can simply assure you that what the DRM actually does isn't anything that should be an issue. Except that new 'protection features' built into Win8 are absurdly and overly aggressive and causes performance problems. These 'protection features'... they actually do very little to prevent Trojan/virus infections simply because 99% of the infections are user enabled by clicking 'OK'.

Thanks mr. Ed. Sorry for the delay.
Even not saying much, that was the best answer in this matter i think. In other words you just clarified this:

1) The issue is not in the addon itself. The plane probably will run without problems in the new OS. That´s what happened in my test.
2) The origin of the situation lies in the relationship between the DRM system and the new ultra protected Windows 8 code. So, i was not completely wrong on my findings :)

At least that's what I could understand with your comments. Correct me if I'm wrong. To end this, i will give my opinion if you don´t mind:

Knowing a little of the software market and how it works, I believe that security changes as you described in Windows 8 can always occur. Only depends on the focus of the development team. As I said before, the probability that the DRM system continues without working on the next version of Windows is too high. That´s why we see versions of the same software/game been lauched year after year. Autocad 2010, Autocad 2012, etc. One can recompile them using compilers that are more current, uses the new OS libraries and take out old code for example.

Without any pretense besides wanting to see my addons in the virtual skies again, I see only one way out. Even saying the DRM code runs smoothly in the previous OS and that the change occurred in the current OS is the cause, I believe the only path is the requalification of the DRM code, creating a new way to maintain security without impacting the product. Yes, in other words, even if you're right, work (If ever be the case) is in the DRM side. You may ask: is the work required justified? The market  share of win8 is small you said. Will it be like this for the next years? And how about the next Windows? This is how the software market has operated independently if we are talking about Fs addons or anything else.

If there are more "if´s" between the lines than what we talk about, i don't know. Only the developers can say.
I hope this topic works as a message to the developers. We don´t expect infinite compatibility but in this case there is nothing wrong with the plane.

Thanks again Mr. Ed.

Here is our policy statement which has been in effect since shortly after W8 release:

Does Eaglesoft support Win 8 Microsoft Operating System?

  • No, Eaglesoft does not own or run Windows 8 for for FSX or P3DV2 Simulations.
  • That said, we know from independent outside tests that ALL Eaglesoft products for both MSFSX and LM P3DV2 work well in Windows 8 when users take full control of their OS.
  • See the Avsim Windows 8 OS forum to note challenges which Windows 8 users must overcome with with MSFSX and LM P3D Simulations.
  • There is an outline of what one user experienced with FSX on Windows 8.
We suggest that all Win 8 Users have a close look with full attention to the following: "I learned that excluding FSX from scans by Windows Defender to be a must for FSX on Windows 8."
  • Another had a similar issue with windows 8. "Noticed Windows Problem Reporting popping up in task manger. Turned it off. Issue went away."" Control Panel/All Control Panel Items/Action Center\Problem Reporting Settings/Never check for solutions."
  • Yet another recommends downloading certain UI Automation cores to cause Windows 8 to play well with MSFSX and P3D Simulations.
  • In no case will Team Eaglesoft offer support for Windows 8 OS quirks, anomalies, or other OS related difficulties.  That duty remains the strict and sole responsibility of Windows 8 Owners/Users.

What about support in future OS from MS?

For now we, like everyone else are awaiting what MS may introduce. Hopefully it will be an improvement and will allow users as much or more control over their OS as W7 does but we'll all need to wait and see. B)

Flavio,

You can't squeeze water from a rock so you might as well stop trying.

Flavio, your time is better spent in finding out what you can do to improve the experience of OSW8 instead of blaming F1. B)

In that case, it's time to lock this thread.

In the final analysis though, the responsibility lies with Flight1 to get their DRM working with Win8.x should they find it to their advantage to do so. Developers have no control over that decision, so there's little point in rattling their cages... :Raised Eyebrow:
