Will Global or Vector or DX10 make a differance in Orbx Alaska?

Featured Replies

So I have decided to return to FSX after some time away.

I have P3d 2 (not installed), FSX (just started installing again), and FSX Steam (not installed). After some self debate I decided to just stick with the old girl FSX.

Before I left I had spent a lot of $ on Alaska paper charts and own Orbx PAKT and PFJ. I was hoping that Orbx would show the love to PAKT & PAJN in P3D by the time I returned. But it does not look to happen anytime soon - hence FSX won the install.

So my question - Since I will only be flying Alaska PFJ and SAK - Just practicing navigation in GA - would buying Global base and Vector make any difference (since those areas are covered by scenery packs)?

If I only fly that area would I ever even turn on Global or Vector always just leave it on North America? (not sure how that works)

And lastly in regards to Steve's DX10 fixer - I remember Orbx PAJN had DX10 problems (this was a year ago). Is that fixed now? If/when Steve returns should I buy that too?

Thanks  - Glad to see the familiar people still around. :)

DX10, Steve's Fixer v2.6, DSR 2.0 or 3.0/33 will give you great performance in Alaska, and anywhere else upon the globe...

Once you run FSX(x) in DX10...there's no turning back, especially with Steve's varied wave directions in v2.6 under WATER.  This selection is gold!

Thanks for the answer buddy. As soon as Steve returns comes back I plan to purchase his solution.

Sound's good...and just to clarify...but you probably knew what I meant...but still....'under Water' was the under the Water Settings of the Fixer...and not literally.   Yeah..I knew you knew that already. This was for all the rest (wink!).

Hehe and here I thought I was going to be able to "do scuba". Naaa I got your meaning.

I did read a really good article about Steve's fixer: http://mutleyshangar.com/reviews/bc/dx10/dx10.htm Wish Steve would get back - but hope he is having a good break.

As for the Orbx stuff I am just going to skip it I suppose. Just sticking with the regions and no Global or Vector.

Steve's been back for quite some time - I believe that there have already been 2 updates to the fixer since he returned.

Well,

what about ORBX FTX Global?

I have this product ( the only one I have from ORBX ) and just re-installed FSX after a long hiatus - I bought the Steam edition - FSX SE

I am using Steve's Fixer 2.6 ( whow! it's a different FSX always with that ) and considered installing ORBX FTX Global, but since I am using FSX only as a scenery generator for Aerowinx PSX, and I need it to look good but above all to be as smooth as possible, I was wondering about FTX Global having a negative impact in frames and VAS usage?

I believe that last time I installed it in standard FSX Gold ( GFWL edition ) it actually looked like giving good performance, even no loss in framerates, but it's been long ago, it takes a while to download and install, and I really wouldn't like to get to the end and find it made my FSX SE slower somehow...

Any comments really appreciated.

Thx!

Really Jack? I must be missing something some where. His blog stills has not updated and FlightSim store still say unavailable.

Could you direct me to a link where to get this software?

Thanks :)

Sorry Rob,

I didn't realize Steve had taken his programme off the shops again at the beginning of January. It was back online in December, and I got notifications from FSS about upgrades to version 2.6, but after your post I had a look at his blog again and see that he took the programme down again at the start of the year, but with the message that it should be back again very soon.

Thanks Jack.

Was hoping it was just me missing a link. Look forward to his return.

Seems like he enjoys his walk-abouts. Just wish it was more than a one man operation so there would not be these downtimes.

Enjoy the fixer my friend! All good things come to those who wait I tell myself. :)

Best,

Rob

The fixer was certainly good and I did enjoy my last time with FSX, but I have to say that I have now fully moved over to P3D2.4 - am really enjoying that, getting fantastic frame rates, no OOMs, and all the goodies that come along with it :)

Yeah I bought P3D 2 when it was released but I really only fly Orbx Alaska - since I bought paper charts and practice my real world navigation there. (Love plotting w/o GPS - geek alert).

With Opus weather, Rex clouds and textures Alaska's fjords are often a good challenge.

Airports like Orbx PAKT and most of the others (PAJN ect.) do not work in P3d 2. Kinda why I left a year ago in the hopes Orbx would update those and I would return. Speculation - Russ (guy who built them) is not working there anymore....again speculation.

Wish everyone (Steve and Orbx) would get on board with my program...haha

Take care Jack. May your wheels always be down when you land.

Just a heads up to say that Steve's Fixer seems to be available again for purchase at his site:

Thanks Jack.

That was definitely on my buy list and got it a few days ago.

Really happy with it.

Took some time to get everything the way I wanted it but very easy with everyone's help.

Hi Rob.

just to throw in my 2 cents. As you already suspected, if you have ORBX sceneries/regions installed and only plan flying in those regions, there is no need to install anything else from them.

Happy flying,

Bernd
