You can't beat XPX for night environment, and perhaps nobody ever will...and...

Featured Replies

....took a Dusk to Night flight out of KFNT last night, (my home base) and IMO, there still is nothing out there, to simulate Dusk/Night/Dawn environments, other than wonderful XPX.x

Just downloaded and installed the latest SkyMax update..and as always...wonderful, from a most involved company (thank you Gentlemen!)

I wonder...with perhaps a major update and push towards XPXI, with XPX.40 at-altitude towards the horizon and haze finally getting fixed, I do wonder this morning what another 'changing-of-the-guard- shall bring to this platform.

Truthfully, if XP.(x) EVER got an ATC engine such as the M.S. franchise has had for years....then I'd probably be flying between the M.S. franchise and XP.x, on perhaps at least, a 50/50 time share basis.  This feature of flight simulation, is the most important update, that I would value for XP at this time.

So many talented people are bringing us scenery and HD mesh.  HD mesh, and scenery they are, that for a core update...for myself...it is a M.S.-based ATC for sure!

My morning thoughts.....(with coffee).

Post Edit:  "Oh..and you can NOT beat the sound-bytes, for engines and cockpit environs.  M.S.-based doesn't come close to the bite of the prop....within XPX.x".

Cheers,

Mitch

Ben Supnik already made a comment on the XP Developer page (don't recall where) that Philipp Munzel is already working on ATC bugs. That alone is good news for me.

Edit: Here are his comments...

"Philipp is working now on ATC bugs. I don’t know how fast bug fixes will get in, but there are -already- ATC fixes in 10.32r1. Philipp’s goal is to make the existing ATC functionality stable, not buggy, and usable."

Unfortunately though, if it only is 'shoring up' of the present system...then it is crude, and something you'd find in a flight sim from 1998.  XP needs an ATC routine like FS9/FSX, plain and simple.  MPO.

Flight sims are just that, flight sim. It would be a monster undertaking to implement proper ATC for little return. Not only that people will want proper AI to work with the ATC. What good is the ATC if there is no traffic around you that is also being controlled by ATC? Yeah i know there is Ai traffic that followsa flight plan. even with FSX you will need an external addon from another payware developer.

You can always go on vatsim after all.

Thank you Carlos, that little snippet made my evening, I hope it will be indeed usable. There does seem to be some inconsistencies in some airports. I was using P2ATC the other day and couldn't get taxi permission because clearance had the same frequency as ground. Granted that was a 3rd party airport.

I bought XPX for the night lights exclusively, in addition to being 64 bit! regardless the other weak points and though i have FSX too... Pro flight Emulator please take advantage of the XPUIPC (equivalent of FSUIPC in FSX) and connect the PFE ATC to XP10 and make it usable if it is possible. XP10 developers please change the ATC voices if you are thinking of improving the ATC. And will end it with an image showing the beauty of XP10 night lights over NYC (using MAX FX, BLu FX to play with colors within XP10 and Real Terra haze to play with lights size, so this image was made in XPX)

This is not the default scenery for XP is it?

The night lights are default however NYC Manhattan X is from Aerosoft for FSX and is converted to XPX (using the freeware tool FS2XPlane) and the bird is JAR design Airbus neo320.

You are a man of many talents. I had read some posts about the conversion utility but most had nothing but headaches. That's great you were able to do it.

Are there any other scenery that you are aware of that convert easily aside from Aerosoft?

Aerosoft Detroit converts well.

Aerosoft Indianpolis converts well

Aerosoft Manhattan X converts well

Aerosoft Chicago converts well

Flytampa TNCM converts well

Fly Tampa Kai tek converts, but needs some modifications to look right.

Drzewieki Miami converts well.

There are several others from my FSX collection, that Ive tried, but some had more issues than I was wiling to mess with so I just bought the XP versions when available.

Rob, I don't own any of those so I guess I will have to wait for other devs to jump onboard. The image the OP posted is really awesome.

As I have said before along with many others, the dusk and night visuals are the best that it gets. I just hope they move forward with what

is missing.

I would agree with the night lighting advantage that XPX has over the rest. I have tried lua.haze which is magic for changimg the way in which lighting interacts with the atmosphere...

I add also to the list Fly Tampa Athens, Aerosoft Charles de Gaulles,Fly Tampa Dubai the city converts well but the airport need minor edit (version FS9 is the best to convert), Heathrow EGLL, Gibraltar, Larnaca, Paolo Ricardo Rio de Janeiro city converts well too.
