CH Rudder Pedals Problem

Featured Replies

Hello,

I just recently purchased CH Rudder pedals.  I already own the CH flightstick.  OS is Win 7 64 bit/P3d 2.4 with lots of bells and whistle add-ons on a 3 month old fast PC.  I typically fly Aerosoft A319/320/321 series.

After plugging CH pedals in yesterday all seemed well.  The flight controls showed full range of motion visually and on the MFD.  I taxiied a bit gleefully and did one x-wind takeoff from KPHP, but I needed to add power to get the aircraft rolling but I figured p3D loaded a full fuel A320 so its to be expected.

Those who sim the Aerosoft series know that it typically starts rolling once you release the parking brake.   Last night I did a 2nd departure from P3D default KSJC that required a lot of power to get to the runway (with a lightly loaded A320 for a 1.4 flight).  I didn't think much of it at the time.

This morning I Ioaded P3D and after pushback from FSDT KIAH I literally could not move the aircraft with TOGA selected.  I never left the alleyway.  It was sufficiently demoralizing.  I took my feet off the pedals suspecting maybe toebrake sensitivity was the issue (it wasnt), turned off max autobrake thinking maybe somehow its engaged and wont let me move (no help).  I fiddled with the P3d calibrate pedals tool; which was nothing but fiddling. I went into Aerosoft menu and turned tiller on/off, FBW on/off.  Loaded up the CH Control Manager and had no clue what was happening.    Nada.

Any suggestions?  I'm a FS veteran and former RW corporate pilot/CFII but not too saavy on the config/hardware side.

What am I missing or doing wrong?    Anyone seen this before or have a canned [constructive] answer?

I'm a bit confused as to what your exact problem is.

Are the brakes staying on or is the rudder axis not working?

Rudder axis is working.  No p3d indication the brakes are engaged.

The a/c however wont move; even with max power set.

Hi mate

I have the propedals ..use this to calibrate them.

here's a link

http://www.chproducts.com/13-29170-Downloads-and-Community.php.

one of the icons adds the pedals to a list .once you see them click on them and it will take you to the calibrate part .you have to push the toe brakes and then do the rudder part.clicking on the click button as you go.

also use the A318/19.

do you use the checklists?? and the 1st officer ??

don't think it's the pedals otherwise you would see the RED sign at the bottom telling you the Parking Brake or the toe brakes are ON.

you could be overloaded.I use Fscaptain which autoloads Fuel and passengers so i've never seen this problem..

my Advise is to use the Airbus checklists with the 1st Officer enabled.it checks your controls in the after engine start part of it.to make sure they are moving correctly.

also worth checking that in the Controls section you have the sensitivity parts to 100%.

If they work with other a/c then there's a setting in the specific a/c that is being missed. Doesn't sound like a rudder issue at all.

I know in FSX you have to put a checkmark in the little box to reverse the axis on the brakes, and maybe P3D is the same.

Greatly appreciate the help from **all**!

Problem solved.  It pays to RTFM and to come to forums.

Used CH Control Manager, and re-calibrated using the CD case tip given in July of 2012 from pmanhart.

Great to see you got it figured out, I was going to post that trick if it was only the brakes not letting off.  B)

As a follow on to this topic...

I'm getting my rig set up again for FS and I have an old set of CH pedals.

I just re-installed FSX, calibrated the pedals internal to windows AND installed the CH Control Manager to boot and calibrated in there as well.

My X-Axis (L Toe Brake) always shows an input value of about 16, even after calibration.  In game, this manifests as near continuous "Differential Braking" messages, even if I set the null zone to max.

If I press on the base of the pedal firmly, I can get it to a zero, but it requires continuous pressure to do so.  Makes me feel like something is out of whack with one of the sensors... but I figured calibration would take care of that, and it appears to do nothing.

Any thoughts on the matter?

I'm having the same issue as BeaconSlash with an old set of CH pro pedals.  I have to keep pressing the bottom of each pedal to eliminate the brake messages and slight braking.  I suspect it's either normal wear and tear due to the age of the pedals, or a faulty potentiometer.  I will likely replace the pedals soon with a new set.  These old pedals have served me well for many years, and would definitely recommend them (if calibration and sensitivity are set through the CH Control Manager).
