CH Rudder Pedals Problem
As a follow on to this topic... I'm getting my rig set up again for FS and I have an old set of CH pedals. I just re-installed FSX, calibrated the pedals internal to windows AND installed the CH Control Manager to boot and calibrated in there as well. My X-Axis (L Toe Brake) always shows an input value of about 16, even after calibration. In game, this manifests as near continuous "Differential Braking" messages, even if I set the null zone to max. If I press on the base of the pedal firmly, I can get it to a zero, but it requires continuous pressure to do so. Makes me feel like something is out of whack with one of the sensors... but I figured calibration would take care of that, and it appears to do nothing. Any thoughts on the matter?

[16JAN15] Update 2 - FSX:SE - Compatibility Update
If I ONLY have FSX:SE installed, do I need to wait for the new NGX installer to come out before I purchase, or can I buy today and install and be ok?

Addon Install Order
So textures come before mesh? I kind of figured mesh was always #1 to install since it was like re-creating the earth, then you put the pretty textures on top of that. UTX before GEX, can do. Airplane add-ons I have no problem with... just a question of priority for the scenery stuff really. Bad title work on my part. When is FTX Global coming out? Do the various weather suites factor in to this at all?

Addon Install Order
Hi all. Looking at a fresh re-install of FSX fairly soon from a clean format. When considering terrain/scenery-based addons, what order should I prefer to follow? I want this to be a broad-based question considering all the types out there, but I'm thinking about things like REX, GEX, FS Genesis Mesh, ORBX, various companies' individual airports, etc. etc. Is there any preference for how addons like these are put in to service? Thanks!

Preferred Table Setup
Hi all,I'm curious what table/desk people use for their FS setup.I just have a basic 2'x4' table right now, but I'm looking for more space, plus a decent setup for my yoke and pedals.I would have likely purchased the Roccaforte Ultimate Gaming Desk, but it appears that company went out of business... :-/Thanks! Pics and/or sources of tables appreciated!

Best Desk for Generic Setup
Hi all,I'd like some opinions on the best commercially available desk for a generic FS setup. I'm not strictly loyal to one plane type over another, and I have a CH yoke and pedals I'd like to make use of, while having access to the keyboard as necessary.I was going to buy the Roccaforte Ultimate Gaming Desk, but it appears that company went under before I could pull the trigger.Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Good Table
Hi there, Curious if anyone has recommendations for tables to build a basic sim device with... something with a Saitek or CH-style yoke and throttle quadrant. I've looked in to the Roccaforte table, but it seems like the throttles would be mounted in a rather weird location given the table heights. I mostly want to have a cockpit-type setup that I don't need to jack around with too much when going between flying mode and normal-day-to-day-internet kinda mode. ~Nate

Whoops - Resolved
Ok, I changed it to NotBeaconSlash so I can change my DairyCreamer account over. Can you please delete the "NotBeaconSlash" account? Thank you kindly.

Whoops - Resolved
I didn't even realize you could change your username and email address from within your account... I'm changing from DairyCreamer to BeaconSlash. I registered BeaconSlash earlier tonight as a different account... is there a way I can delete this account so I can just go back in to DairyCreamer and chance the display name from there? Sorry for being dumb, my bad.

NGX VATSIM Testflight
May I suggest strongly that the RNAV arrivals in to PHX are tested with varying levels of winds aloft and different runway configs?ZAB and P50 spent a lot of time working with the airlines to create maximally fuel-efficient RNAV profile descent windows. US Airways apparently went so far as to call them the must fuel-efficient arrivals in the country. They have multiple windows for the crossing restrictions, theoretically letting VNAV take the absolutely optimal descent path. I'm curious how the aircraft handles with high winds aloft in adjusting to the descent.~Nate

Sudden Change to Tips and Tricks
Hi there,I was a designated moderator for the Tips and Tricks forum for a number of years. While I'll be the first to admit I neglected my duties for a time, I have spent a decent amount of time over the past couple of weeks working to clean up the T&T forum, eliminating questions, and getting things back to a "normal" state.I have nothing against the change of venue for the revised T&T forum, but it pretty much came as a surprise, and the moderator status I held seems to have been summarily revoked (I wasn't even notified that the forum was changing in the first place). A bit disappointing since it's been pretty nice getting back in to the role.Anywho... I'd like to be of help still. Just surprised that things got shifted so suddenly.~Nate

User Account Control (UAC) and Performance
So, NickN's guides for setting up FS discuss disabling UAC straight away. Can someone with experience in the matter discuss just how (or how not) disabling UAC benefits performance both for FS and Windows in general?I'm not super paranoid about my computer, and if there are definite advantages to disabling, then by all means I will. I just dislike the concept of removing what appears to be a halfway reasonable layer of security unless there will be measurable gains. Thanks!

RTW Descent in real life
First, that's not airspeed, it's ground speed. For the somewhat tight right turn to the south to head toward NYL, coupled with the poor time resolution of radar data used to derive the ground speed, it's not surprising that that the displayed GS is much lower than what's was likely true at the time. Statistically, those spikes are anomalous.

I am Completely Indifferent Either Way About MS Flight
I love how indifference can stir controversy. Such strong opinions. Quite amazing for a product that is in such early stages of pure marketing. I mostly just wanted to see if I was alone in my opinion.Heck, maybe indifference isn't even the right adjective. Of course I want MSF to be awesome beyond all hope. I just can't believe people can possibly be outright sold or turned away at this stage of the process.

Best GPU/Graphic Card
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-gaming-graphics-card-geforce-gtx-590-radeon-hd-6990,2879-7.htmlThat's a great little chart to see where you're at and where you want to be.The rest of the article is good too for cards at particular price points.Also... http://techreport.com/Click on the GPU link up top for tons of good info.

AMD Cards = Problems?
I'm finalizing a build here, and I just want to make sure that it still holds that AMD cards just aren't that compatible with FSX compared to nVidia.I'm basically between a nVidia 560 or an AMD 6950. I lean toward the NV card solely because of FSX.Thoughts?

I am Completely Indifferent Either Way About MS Flight
I don't know... considering the game hasn't been released yet, no proper evaluations or benchmarks have been made, and all we see are minor marketing screenshots and videos about MS Flight, I'd just like to say:I'm totally indifferent about Flight. If it sucks, I'll go X-Plane.If it's great, I'll go Flight. No point in judging a game that isn't even Beta yet, let alone released.Seriously... how can anyone be totally unimpressed or wholly sold on this product yet? Honestly...Mostly, I just wanted to give the uncommitted masses an agnostic thread choice to post in.

930 -> I5 2500K
BeaconSlash replied to mwilk's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcBut when Flight comes out, perhaps hyper-threading will be of benefit.A little future-proofing never hurt anyone who only built systems every few years.

FSX Perf with SSD
BeaconSlash replied to BeaconSlash's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcI would consider "smoother" an improvement. Certainly not expecting extra FPS out of it though.

FSX Perf with SSD
Hi there,Considering new system build in the near future. SSD is going to be a definite, but trying to figure out size, in part.FSX is my main game. Considering it's quite the space hog when loaded up with, say, juicy mesh terrain, textures, planes, etc., I'm concerned about the space/benefit comparison utilizing an SSD.Does FSX get any noticeable performance benefit from using an SSD? I've got mine on a Velociraptor right now and it does ok. Just curious if there will be a noticable difference, or if I should save some $$$ on the SSD size and dump the idea of having FSX on it.Thanks!

New SSD question
BeaconSlash replied to sluihn's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcI'm gonna quasi-piggy-back on this one.I'm thinking about an SSD myself here in the near future (a whole new build actually).Obviously FSX can eat a lot of storage space on install, particularly if loaded up with FS Genesis mesh and add-on glory. Is there an optimum way to organize a from-scratch FSX install with its subsequent add-ons? I ask only because I'll have my SSD as my primary drive but a platter drive as my D. Wasn't sure if it was practical/easy/helpful to split the storage load between the two.

What MSF really needs!
I was going to say live AIRAC and terminal procedures updates pushed regularly with the IFR chart cycle, along with keeping up to date with runway construction activities to the extent practical.~Nate

Ideal FSX Install/Tweak Routine
So in other words, the guide doesn't describe anything regarding order of install for various add-ons.Does anyone else have an opinion on the matter? Are there any particularly well known conflicts between the various major add-ons for FSX, particularly in terms of mesh priorities or the like. I know they all specialize in their own thing, but with the overlap that does exist, I don't want to adversely affect my setup due to conflict or otherwise choosing poorly :-D~NatePS - Looks like I'm gonna have to wait until nHancer 2.6.0 comes out before I do all this anyway. I need the latest drivers for SC2 to run well, and 2.5.9 doesn't cut it anymore.

Ideal FSX Install/Tweak Routine
Well, I meant whether there's a particular order to install the add-on packages. Sometimes they kind of overlap in what they do it seems.~Nate
