How to reset the FMC after activating and executing a route ?

Featured Replies

Hi,

sometimes I acknowledge I have made an error after I have entered & activated a certain route.

Well, the FMC locks itself like a caveau and there is pretty much nothing I can do to reset it and retype the route from scratch. INVALID DELETE, YOU ARE A FOOL, and messages like that keep on appearing.

Usually I exit the plane, I communicate the passengers that I can't reset the FMC therefore the flight is postponed to another day where I re-enter the plane and I program the FMC correctly. A relief breath is always clearly audible when I commit no errors into the FMC route programming.... -_-

I bet anyway there is another way to achieve that but sorry to say I ignore it.

Could you please let me know how to reset a certain validated route into the FMC ?  Better would be to know also which is the way to do that while on fly, my passengers are always curious to know if they are going to land where expected of thousands kilometers away.

Thanks in advance

IIRC all you have to do is to change your destination Airport (or just retype the old one), then the Route will delete itself. Or you could use RTE2.

Thanks for the answer but I already tried to use the route 2 but the FMC ignores the route 2 and on the nav dispaly it keeps on showing me the route 1 magenta line.

Yesterday evening, after yelling to the sky after an error, I tried as you suggested to use the route 2....well, to my concern and surprise the nav display mixed the magenta lines of the route 1 with the magenta lines of the route 2 and in addition, in the landing airport, the FMC removed the missed approach line and added " VECTORS " drawing in the nav display a never ending magenta line bearing to 348° after the runway....

Too much for me I told to myself, better asking in the PMDG 777 forum

This is my first flight after a while ( SP1b ) and maybe something has changed since the last patch , into the FMC logic I am not aware of.

PS of course I have the PMDG 777 Sp1c installed

Just try to overwrite the destination ICAO in RTE1, this will clear the entered Route.

Cycle the navigation database in the IDENT page will delete everything. (Press INIT REF then 1L ) . Not sure if it works with PMDG but it certainly works on the real airplane.

Much appreciated indeed, both for the suggestion and the real procedure hint !

Thanks of course also to HerzogKraut.

You are welcome. It's more like a trick than real procedure. Especially if one needs to clear the FMC quickly during a sim exercise. In real life I would prefer the method suggested by HerzogKraut to prevent selecting the wrong database inadvertently.

This for sure is a practical feature. Would also be nice in our PMDG777, however - I did try to use it to no avail - Just did't work.. :(

The PMDG simulation only access one version of the navigation database, not multiple as the real aircraft.  Even better, the best solution works. Just change destination, even copy/paste same destination and presto! Empty route.

Use this instead:

Hi Kyle and Dan,

I also tried to change the destination however, this only changes the destination and does not clear the route - all waypoints where still present after the changed destination, the same with the Perf. Page - all entries where still there.

I had loaded a route (LOWW - VTSB) and set up the FMC - after that I tried to clear the FMC by this trick, and when this did not work I entered LOWW as destination - however, as stated, that did not clear the route.

Maybe I need to change the destination to something totally different, not Dep. or Dest.?

Maybe I made a mistake? Could you be so kind as to provide a step by step guide? Starting with a fully programmed FMC (Dep. + Dest., Route, Perf. T/O, all programmed) and I want to get back to cleared FMC like the state it is in when powering up / after shut down....

Nah. I did. I linked to a post with incorrect info because I only skimmed it.

Replace the ORIGIN. That'll do it.

Ahh - Thanks, will give it a try next time I'll make it to the cockpit.

that is what i always thought while reading this thread. IIRC entering a new DEP ID clears the ARR entry (4 empty boxes) and the LEGS page is empty.

But somehow I also remember that it did not work under certain conditions...
