Nvidia Geforce GTX Titan X - would P3D be able to unleash this card's full potential?

Still waiting on newegg - back ordered cant believe it has taken this long - longer wait for that bracket thats for sure

Might be a local saying but here in Sweden we say 'Anyone waiting for something good ALWAYS is waiting for too long' :D

same here, it's out of stock in Europe.

Actually I've seen a couple of local stores here in Stockholm still having cards in stock so for anyone who wants one you should come visit us :smile:

I was a bit puzzled why the fan wouldn't spin faster at that rather high temp so I decided to download an Asus utility called GPU Tweak similar to MSI AfterBurn etc.

MSI Afterburner allows for custom fan curves too. It works with all recent nVidia cards.

i just bought a GTX titan x but seem that driver 350.12 its the only one support by the GPU. no papi light etc . can i install 337.88 ? or an other driver that will work fine with the X and not broking P3d and those PAPI?

Only 347.88 and above will work with Titan X - so basically this is the only driver choice we have - sadly

347.88 was working fine on My first tiran . it should work fine with the x?

You asked if you could install 337.88  not 347.88 - you can not install 337.88 it will not work - card is not supported error message I know because I tried

ok fine . im going to try it the 347 then. thx

Richard, and anyone who is using the Titan X, can you tell me what you have your graphics set to?

Are you guys using a 4K monitor yet?

Have you noticed any difference with the Optimize tweek?

I have the Titan X and a cpu overclocked to 4.4.

This is my typical graphics settings: http://www.robainscough.com/P3D_Titan_X_4K_Set.html ... my goal is 30 FPS I use Vsync to govern that with setting of Unlimited ... my objective is consistent time between frames and I'm less concerned about FPS so long as I can match my monitor refresh rate which is each 30Hz or 60Hz (normally I set to 30Hz).  60Hz is for other gaming and not flight sim.

My settings can vary a little going from 2048 to 1024 and some adjustments to the AI trafic/road traffic.

Yes on 4K monitor (Sony 49").

No on the Optimize setting -- at least with the aircraft I use I see no difference.  I do use this setting per documentation (Leaning center):

[TERRAIN] UseGlobalTerrainView=True

Try this setting Rob is using 4k and most are not to cut thru the video you would just do the optimize parts = 1 and add fiber line just under main section also download his NI profile thats it - works the best so far until LM and or Nvidia get this right - this is the best I have seen so far

My P3D settings on 32" Benq monitor

FXAA=ON

MSAA= 4 SAMPLES

TEXTURE FILTER=ANSIO 8X

TEXTURES=2048

VYSNC=ON

TRIPPLE BUFFERING=OFF

FPS=UNLIMITED

Thanks Rob and Richard. It has improved my performance.

I've left FXAA off and switched on triple buffering, but always wonder if they do anything?

I've used TERRAIN tweek.

  • 1 month later...

Rob,

Have you seen any evidence of the famous "blurries" associated with FSX when sitting in the virtual cockpit of PMDG 737. I use a GTX680 card along with a overclocked i7 3770 CPU, 32GB Ram and consistently observe the blurries. Have tried all tweaks but no joy. Thought the Titan x with 12Gb memory would help.

Thank you in advance

Stu Frost

Hi Stu,

The 12GB VRAM is mostly not used by P3D ... my max usage has been 4.6GB VRAM.

How much VRAM does your 680 card have?

Do you run A LOT of photo realistic scenery?  If so, disable everything in your scenery library except the area you plan to fly.  Here is a log file I did regarding File IO activity in P3D: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bw0Q-fAfEZwyaFVxZ0t1dTBkX2s/view?usp=sharing ... download the zip and extract to a .csv ... if you look at the file you'll see CONSIDERABLE file IO activity ... and this was just a short 10 minute flight.  The more aircraft, scenery, airports you have installed the more File IO thrashing happens ... fortunately it doesn't appear to cause any significant VAS issues, but it does put stress of sub systems (this is where fast SSDs can really help) and CPU processing even if the files are not loaded into memory they are constantly being queried during flight even files that appear completely unrelated to your location.

Notice all the aircraft.cfg, AI aircraft files, and even Airport BGL 3000 miles away getting queried.

Another option is to try FFTF= 0.99 ... this will hurt FPS, but if you still have blurries with that setting then something else is causing the blurries.

If these two options don't work, then I'd start looking at hardware, drivers, what other services/apps might be running in the background (anti-virus products etc.).

Cheers, Rob.

Rob,

Thanks for your quick response. The video card I presently use is a Geforce GTX680 that has 2GB  VRAM and do no use any photo realistic scenery. I have the add-on ORBX series scenery mainly plus the default scenery that was initially installed. I will use your suggestion to disable the scenery area not being flown and try FFTF=.99. I will report back my results ASAP.

Rob,

I stumbled across the source of my blurry problem after many tweaks. I have always used the add-on FSX Fiber Acceleration to improve my frame rates and smooth my flight. I thought I would run FSX without the FFA installed and lo and behold no blurries developed any where during various flight situations. I have no idea why FFA has such a negative effect on the terrain uploading during flight but I will question the vendor on possible fixes to their program. Once again thanks for your input.
