UTX vs Vector - which one?

Isn't Vector's data upgraded over time, and not just once at release?

That would be true for any product in active release. Out of the box, UTX uses the most accurate commercially available data. And it is updated as needed.

Vector has had a few updates but nothing I have seen relating to their data source.

Vic,

Which landclass do you use with that combination?

I thought FTX Global replaced the textures and didn't follow standards, so that if you use anything but FTX landclass, it won't show properly.

Not true at all. I use both the UTX landclass and the openLC from FTX. I have them layered so UTX has higher priority meaning that in areas that BOTH cover, UTX will show and in other areas, whichever has the coverage.

I also use the FreeMesh product and FS Global2010 mesh the same way - layered to get the best coverage.

And although each system is different, I found that I had more of an FPS hit with Vector than UTX

In a really strong system, FPS doesn't really mean that much as long as it is visually acceptable. What it does mean is that you have less leeway for additional add-ons to affect FPS enough so that it isn't visually acceptable.

Thanks for the information Vic.

Perhaps I explained myself incorrectly but I thought ORBX had 'redesigned' the standard texture sheets so that they would only look correct if used with ORBX Landclass.. Maybe I was wrong..

I thought that was the price you paid to use FTX Global.

Do you use FTX Central at all or did you set that to Global Hybrid before installing UTX?

I know that I had problems in the past with FTX swapping its custom terrain.cfg file and autogen out every time I changed region.

Yes, I use FTX Central and switch according to where I am flying. Once I set the insertion point for the Scenery, I've had no issues.

I manually adjusted my Scenery Library so that he specific FTX regions like PNW, CRM, etc come first. Then the UTX entries, then FTX Global, Vector, openLC.

So switching to EU for example and then back to PNW doesn't change the relationship between FTX and UTX products.

UTX for North America and Europe works great on my middle of the road PC. No FPS hits at all.

Hi Vic,

I will be installing UTX and FTX tonight, time permitting.
Would you be so kind as to share /send me a screenshot of your scenery cfg. file in the scenery config editor, so I can check the layering?

Thanks for your help,

Toby
