Shockwave Redux lighting system...run..don't walk...open wallet/purse!

Featured Replies

I bought this last night, and after reading the easy tutorial to start converting your 3rdP fleet to Shockwave...here is one of my results.  This is the Carenado Stationair 6 II, in amphibian.  From the standard Carenado lights (all of them), to Shockwave Redux...is phenomenal! From the light beams of the twin landing lights on the nose cowl, now diffusing into the atmosphere, to the great ground throw of the lights, as well as hotter, clearer nav and strobe...all in all...vastly superior to any default or third party aircraft light solutions and display. Added bonus, once you upgrade (free to v1.2a at the A2A site)..is that your runway lighting system, can also get the Shockwave Redux 'kiss'.  I have it installed...and well....it ROCKS upon approach and at taxi...all airports!  You now sense atmosphere....haze...humidity...wow!

As night turns into day... we water land, and then run up upon a Homer beach, for a walk and stretch. You have to appreciate Amphibians for that...water, land, water..doesn't matter...go where you want....

Amazing lighting works well!

HLJAMES

Yes, they sure do, HL!

I had an initial bumpy start, lol...(learning curve and understanding, and also had to update to the latest version (with even more features and light sets colors, intensities, for even such birds as the 1940's DC3!)) but, once you get the gist of modifying the Aircraft.cfg and Panel.cfg files for each plane you want to Shockwave Redux, (all very well explained in the manual)..no further problem. I can never go back to any plane that does not have this fabulous and real life-looking, aviation lighting system. Stock lighting, whether on default, or 3rdP,  simply now looks fake to me.  Just a white sprite on the wing and fuselage. This...with atmospheric projection and diffusion, is what every plane should be equipped with, in my personal opinion, HL.

All in all...as most HEARTY Sesquashtoo-recommended program to have in your field hangar!

Cheers, and light 'em up!  Git 'er done! :)

Hi guys,

   My Shockwave Redux lighting are only working on default aircraft which I hardly ever use. And I must say they work fantastically.  How do you make them work on PMDG's  B737 (800,900), B777 (200, 300), B747(400, 8i), And aerosoft's A318/319?  I only find the configuration for  B747-400. Or is it not possible?

Anyone for assistance?

Thanks in advance.

Here you go, John, and you can add these lights to any aircraft, as long as it has an Aircraft.cfg and Panel. cfg of which they all should have. You can also add these beauties to any A.I. packaged aircraft!

It is by trial-adjusting the light section..and then viewing your plane in FSX. If the shockwave orbs are not directly placed in the 'bulls-eyes' of the light position or 'light lens', then you adjust the numbers...and then view again. Once you have it...you make yourself a library of your custom [lights] section for each aircraft and store them away. Before you begin though..I make a copy of the original [lights] section and then make a text file called default light section of Aircraft.cfg, and save the original section in that.  Then press save to keep it...and that is your safety back up. You can always bring that section back into your Aircraft.cfg file to go default, or to start over, for your next attempt. It is not hard...just trial and error. You will succeed in all your planes...only if you make the time happen to tweak the light section. Remember to add the line (per instructions) to your Panel.cfg file as well. Be mindful, that (also per instructions) that you might need one or the other lines provided for the entry into the Panel.cfg file, for if your plane has lights on the landing struts, that should go out, as the struts are retracted. This is provided, here.  If you don't use the proper Panel.cfg gauge line...your Shockwave lights will stay on, even when your landing gear is retracted, and appear as a light orb suspended below the plane.  I have the lights on my Baron...and it is so cool to see them turn off automatically, when the landing gear is retracted. To turn back on your Shockwave lights when dropping your landing gear...just cycle the 'L' key once on and off. They will then overtake the default orbs...and away you go...to great and life-like light rendering.  Some people stop using the program, because it does take your involvement, to custom out the [lights] section of each plane. Is it hard? No...but you need to keep at the adjust/view, adjust/view, adjust/view DONE, methodology...and you will succeed in all that you wish to accomplish!

Post Edit: Before you try your hand at any 3rdP plane you might have, from any software house...I suggest you do a GOOGLE search something like this, for instance;  Shockwave Redux config file for (your plane and software house model). You'd be surprised at how many others have already done the work..and have posted their [light] section for that particular aircraft. You simply then cut and paste...not forgetting to also add the one or other line needed at the bottom of your vcockpit1 section. If you go to the A2A Shockwave Redux forum, there is a database of various software houses, and their aircraft, of which yours might be there...and you are a cut 'n paste away... There you go....

Cheers,

Mitch

To add 3D Lights to add-on aircraft make the following additions to the aircraft's aircraft.cfg and panel.cfg files:

PANEL.CFG
Add the following line at the bottom of the [VCockpit01]
section changing 'XX' to the next available number

gaugeXX=shockwave_lights!SW Lights, 1,1,1,1 //shockwave light

or if the landing lights are attached to the UC legs or doors and they go out automatically on the stock lights when the UC is raised then:

gaugeXX=shockwave_lights!SW Lights_gear, 1,1,1,1 //shockwave light

AIRCRAFT.CFG
Add the following line at the bottom of the [lights] section changing 'XX' to the next available number

light.XX = 5, 0.7, -5.7, -2, fx_Shockwave_landing_light // Shockwave light

The coordinates above are as follows:
- Light type (must be 5 for landing lights)
- Position fore and aft(- = back, + = forward)
- Position left and right (- = left (in cockpit view) + = right (in cockpit view)
- Position up and down (- = down, + = up)

Numbers have to be adjusted for each aircraft you add lights to and are measured in feet from the model origin point.

If the aircraft has more than one light then set up one first then copy and paste the line for the second one.

For symmetrical lights in the wings you would just need to increment the light # and add or remove
the - sign in the 3rd position numbers to switch between port and starboard.

Hi Mitch,  I tried first with the landing lights. So I got landing lights but no electronic gauges, like altimeter, kias, heading and all the rest. So had to revert to normal on the file.  The file is for the B737-700. Can we use this for the 737-800 and 900?

Also, has anyone changed to shockwave lighting. on the B777?   I don't see any files specially for the B777.   I saw a video on the net, that talked about the A200. What plane is this. The guy was showing the B737 ngx, but if I understood right he said A200...

I'm doing something wrong, obviously.

Cheers.

If you are referring to the pmdg 777 you can not use shockwave lights on it - its impossible as for NGX - each group of entries is specific to each aircraft as the size of each is different so the coordinates will be different - those number are used to place the lights in specific areas every aircraft will be different as the models are different in size

Great pics.  Gotta say I'm just not a fan of that weird cone of light done by A2A.  It would be realistic if it were foggy or rainy, or an evening with high humidity.  I wish I could get rid of it in their planes too.

Ok, watch this:

I know it works in NGX but not in 777 - contacted PMDG and with the new lighting system they said this will not work no biggie as the 777 lighting system is nice actually more and more aircraft coming out now really dont need shockwave lights anymore

I had the same thing...at first use...no instrument panel would light. I had to go and update my Shockwave to v1.2a. After that...they light up, just fine. Make sure you have the latest version, which can be downloaded for free from the A2A site.  Look in the Shockwave Redux Forum, near the top for the link

Ryan, an airliner's lights at night look super strong if it passes above you about 60-70 ft. So shockwave lights still look much more realistic than default lights in my opinion. Even in fine weather. I think fsx has weak" lights just maybe to save on fps or something like that.

Cheers.
