July 17, 200520 yr Good point Micheal! The amazing amount of streetlights along the terminal roads are a bit of a hit. Turning the settings down to Dense will rid yourself of those. Turning the settings down past that will also get rid of the lights around the piers. These can also be a hit as each one has an "effect" attached to it (the night lights). In the way I set the scenery levels, Sparse still is nice looking but without almost all of the fps hogs.In response to the earlier post about the texture folder size, it is due to the seasonal ground textures. The sattelite imagery that I used was .75 meters/pixel and I also made sure that there was a texture for each season. Thankfully, only one out of the 6 texture sets loads at a time. So, you really aren't loading 256MB of textures each time! Thanks again for the comments!Matt Perry
July 17, 200520 yr I have it working now. I reinstalled KBWI for the third time as I did the last 2 times and all is good now. Not sure were my mistake was becauses I installed both sets of files the same way. Thanks for the help and the great scenery.
July 17, 200520 yr yup even on my rig it's 6-15fps unacceptable for me, reminds me of KLAX from simflyers, I wish everyone used the same tecneque that flightscenery did with Rhode Island.....
July 17, 200520 yr I'm not familiar with the scenery as I do not own it. What is the technique which you speak of? More details would be most welcome so that I can apply them in the future. Thanks.Matt Perry
July 17, 200520 yr >I'm not familiar with the scenery as I do not own it. What>is the technique which you speak of? More details would be>most welcome so that I can apply them in the future. Thanks.>>Matt Perry>well, I am not a scenery designer so I dont know exactly how they do it but the scenery is extreemly detailed and almost no fps hit at all over default scenery. I's extreemly efficiant and detailed.
July 18, 200520 yr Matt,The fact is, that most people will tune and tweak their settings - and leave it at that.very few are going to make changes for the sake of a single scenery - no matter how fine (and don't get me wrong - this one is SPECTACULAR!!).A more practical approach, IMHO, is to put these frame hogging elements in seperate bgl files, so they can just be pulled out of the folder if performance considerations reqire so.BTW Matt - maybe that's the case with this scenery, is it?best regards//Michael
July 18, 200520 yr Didn't think of that in this case! Thank you Micheal for offering constructive suggestions! Here's the order that I would consider taking them out in order to least effect visual appearance and offer better speeds...//These will remove the streetlights on the land-side of the terminalkbwistreetlgt.BGL && kbwistreetlgt2.BGL//This will remove their "spots" of light from the roads //(not a big hit but should do this before the next step)kbwistspot.BGL//This will remove the roads on the landside of the terminalkbwiroad.BGLI'd hate to offer people advice on how to tear apart my scenery piece-by-piece, but if it helps you use it, then it is a step in the right direction!Matt Perry
July 18, 200520 yr Great looking scenery...unfortunately I'm getting a slide show with a P4 2.8GHz OC to 3.36GHz, Radeon 9700 Pro@1600x1200 resolution, 1GB Kingston Hyper-X 3500 Memory and 120GB (70% available free space and just defragged hard drive).Seems we have a major memory leak? (Just retested with other scenery packages and that includes SF...no problems with these.)
July 18, 200520 yr Please try removing the files I listed in a reply above and see if that works better for you. Sorry for the extra work!Matt
July 18, 200520 yr I watched the video but have to say it left me less than impressed. There is a lot of stutter and building textures seem out of focus. Considering other reports about poor performance I think I will simply pass for now. Too bad they don't offer any simple screenshots.Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_beta_member.jpg Michael J.
July 18, 200520 yr This scenery is a masterpiece! The grass textures are great. Runs fine on my rig and sure brings back a lot of memories from when I used to live there 25 years ago. Thanks so much for the great work!http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
July 18, 200520 yr I will wait for someone to post some screenshots (on the screenshot forum?). I certainly want to give this scenery a chance but with a rather poor video and other reported issues I want to wait before I jump into this significant download.Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_beta_member.jpg Michael J.
July 18, 200520 yr Hi,with the files removed I gained about 3-4 frames. which kept my approach around 9fps or hogher (compared to 6-7 before).if you don't make any sharp turns on final (normally you wouldn't), it makes a relatively smooth glide onto the runway - good enough for me!!surprisingly turning the viewpoint towards the major terminal building complex does not impact the frames as much.Thanx Matt! it really is a masterpiece!//Michael
