July 18, 200520 yr Hi Everyone,Well, I just checked back at this forum tonight and glad to see all the discussion. Great to hear that some of you are having great success with the airport and enjoying it. Sorry to hear that some are having really bad fps. One of the difficulties in releasing any scenery is that you only have your rig to test it on and it's hard to extrapolate to others' performance (although Matt worked hard to control the fps rates). For instance, I never get below 15 fps during the day and am comfortably in the 20s at night with FS maxed out on sliders (I also use AI Aardvark which I highly recommend especially for the Southwest birds). Anyway, just wanted to let you know, we do have a few ideas up our sleeves to improve fps for those who are not getting good performance (as Matt has already mentioned one). We'll let you know how they pan out when we get them tested. Also, a few cheers for Matt would be in order. Afterall he gave up nearly 10 months of his free time (and sleep) to bring this airport to you for free. Plus, Matt is willing to go the extra mile and support this airport for you all. Do him a favor and support him by providing constructive feedback (both good and bad) so we can improve it and hopefully make the next airport even better (if we can trick Matt into doing another!). Thanks all,JoshuaP.S. I can post some screenshots if you like (I have a few with the Southwest Maryland One plane I particularly enjoy).
July 18, 200520 yr I would be grateful if the creators (or anyone who did it successfully) give me a clear step-by-step installation instructions. For a non-native speaker a short ReadMe is not enough, I guess. Thanks!NickMoscowRussia
July 18, 200520 yr Joshua, you are absolutly right and I know I was a bit harsh. Matt, it really does look nice and being a SWA junky I need BWI, so I was happy one was made but dissapointed the fps were so poor, I hope this gets all fixed, keep up the work and thanks for the time.spook
July 18, 200520 yr Guys Guys Guys!!!! We are getting a little Picky here! After all it is Freeware and these fellas worked their tails off on this scenery. If anyone has a sick machine it's me and the scenery works pretty darn good on mine. I got a gig of ram and only 128 on my ATI 9800.The Rhode Island scenery was mentioned and Its most likely all GMAX and great care was taken to tweak it to run on most machines and we paid that price as well. All I can say is thanks a million to Matt and the others who designed this. It's been long wait for a quality BWI to appear. How about Houston Hobby next?Jim
July 18, 200520 yr Hi everyone,Been looking into framerates for you all and have a few recommendations we'd like you to try out. Here are the settings on my machine and what you can do to (hopefully) improve fps on your machine. All of these "experiments" were done on approach to 15R in the default cessna at rush hour (worst case scenario)Power Use Setting:Traffic: 100% w/ Ultimate Traffic and AI Aardvark (about 50 planes)Extended Texture Blending: OnGround Scenery Shadows: OnScenery Complexity: Extremely DenseMIP Mapping: 8Filtering: TrilinearGlobal Max Texture Size: MassiveFPS on approach: 10.5 Improvements: (Each of these improvements build on the last so the last recommendation includes all of the previous ones)Remove the ground shadows: 13.5 fpsPlus set scenery complexity to very dense (removes trees): 19.5 fpsPlus set scenery complexity to normal (removes light posts): 21.0 fpsPlus reduce traffic to 50%: 27.0 fpsNote these improvements were chosen to maximize framerates while keeping the airport as sharp as possible. Would love to hear whether these work (or don't work) for everyone having framerate issues. I would also suggest AI Aardvark for your traffic as they are the most frame rate friendly I've used (and can be put in traffic programs like Ultimate Traffic). We'll keep looking into other improvements, but felt these may allow you to enjoy the airport faster if you've been having problems. Happy flying,Joshua
July 19, 200520 yr This is great freeware scenery, beautifully done, very nice. Congratulations on a nice job and heartfelt thanks for making this freeware.
July 19, 200520 yr I won't comment on the framerates. You made this for free so thanks for your time and dedication. Regards, Max (YSSY) i7-12700K | Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB 3600MHz DDR4 | Gigabyte RTX4090 24Gb | Gigabyte Z690 AORUS ELITE DDR4 | Corsair HX1200 PSU
July 19, 200520 yr Thanks to all for the comments/compliments/concerns! Joshua and I are starting to narrow down the source of some of the framerate problems and are looking for work arounds. We'll keep you updated as work progresses. Thanks again. It is always a pleasure to give back to the community that has already given us so much!Matt
July 19, 200520 yr I installed it last night and am very impressed. I love the photo ground textures. I did not notice much of a FPS problem with the RealAir SF260. Good job guys!Tony
July 19, 200520 yr Just flew out of BWI on June 20th and then back again on July 4th. My wife and I flew British Airways World Traveler Plus seats on their 767-300ER to LHR. I must say that SouthWest certainly has made their presence known there. However, other major airlines seem sparce, as did the international terminal. There was an ATA L-1011 and a DC-10 there. That made it interesting. BWI certainly has potential and low landing fees when compared to other major airports in the area.RH
July 19, 200520 yr Author The problem was KBWI was a Piedmont hub, and Philly a US Air. After they merged, these (plus Pittsburgh and Charlotte) were too many hubs for a rational sked. So US Air downsized and gave an opening to SWA.scott s..
October 30, 200520 yr The new version has arrived! Check it out here... http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...scen&DLID=75784Thanks for your input and your patience!Matt Perryfoxtrotsierra.org
October 30, 200520 yr Looking great!!!I have encountered one little problem. The installation creates some empty files inside the "scenery" folder (This is mentioned in the docs). However, if those are left there, and not phisically removed, the sim refuses to load the scenery. It just gets stuck there on 0%Other then that - looking VERY good, and seems more frame-friendly than the previous version. Definetely a new favourite spot in the US for me...:)many thanks to the developers !!//Michael
October 30, 200520 yr Thanks a lot guys! It is definitely more fps friendly on my computer than the previous version. Since I fly in and out of BWI quite often in real life, it's a favorite FS9 destination too.I had no problem with the 0 kb files, it loaded fine.Jim
October 30, 200520 yr Great job with the scenery! I live in Baltimore and have been to that airport a million times. Very authentic. Is there a way to improve performance though? I have a 2.4 GHz machine w/ 1.5 gigs of memory and a 128MB Geforce video card, and I get great framerates with other addon scenery, but there seems to be something very frame-stingy with this, at least on my machine. Even between dense and very sparse settings, it only goes from about 8 fps to 11. Are there some files in this version I can delete or something? Thanks for any advice, and for the great scenery.
