July 25, 200520 yr Hey everyone. Ive had this problem with MSFS for a long time and never thought to post for help on here. Last night I was flying a short hop and when starting the approach at the destination the metaer and atis were both calling 1SM OVC 600 and drizzle(among other things). Now the problem was that I was about 10 mile final and was able to see the runway(the whole airport actually). 5 miles final still able to see,3 miles final still able to see, finally about 2 miles I couldnt see anything. which is what it should have been like for the whole approach but it wasnt. Does anyon know why this is and is there a way to fix it. Its not very exciting when your expecting a fun and challenging approach and end up seeing the field all the way down.I should have taken a pic to show you but totaly forgot. Thanks in advanced.P.S. Sorry if this has been asked before but I searched the forum and came up with nothing. July 25, 200520 yr Hi,You need a product such as Active Sky V to solve the OVC issue.http://www.hifisim.com/Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
July 25, 200520 yr Author Hi,I was thinking of purchasing it but was wondering how much of a FPS hit will it have on average? Thanks Intel I7 12700KF / 32 GB Ram-3600mhz / Windows 11 - 64 bit / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060TI / 32" Acer Monitor, Honeycomb alpha/bravo, CH rudder pedals, Tobii 5, Buttkicker, Logitech radio panel.
July 25, 200520 yr I haven't seen any fps hit at all. Buy it along with Flight Environment, flightsimming will never be the same again.Dave FisherCYYZP4 Prescott 3.2e 478p 800mhz 1mg CPUP4P800S Asus Motherboard1.0 gig PC3200 DDR RAM 400MHZGeforce Ti 4200/128Maxtor 40 Gig ATA 133 HD x2WDC WD800 80 Gig HDhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpghttp://fs2crew.com/linepilot.jpg
July 25, 200520 yr "I was thinking of purchasing it but was wondering how much of a FPS hit will it have on average?"I've used every version since the beginning and never noticed a frame-rate hit. Currently, they have 3 resolutions for cloud sets to choose from to suit your system. It's the the most enjoyable add-on I have. I have no connection with ASV, in case you're wondering.JackD
July 25, 200520 yr Hi,And just to add: it's hard to say without knowing your system specs! Also, we have many adjustable options to fit your machine and visual preferences!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
July 25, 200520 yr Author Ya, Im kind of embarassed to give my specs(Because they are so low LOL)My specs are this:P4 1.8 GHZ400 megs of ramonly an onboard 3D videocard 64 Mb40 gig hardriveI am not to good when it comes with computers So I might have forgoten something important with the specs.Actually now that I gave my specs, What would someone reccommend upgrading for better FPS, I was thinkin a video card but not sure. Thanks again. July 25, 200520 yr Are you saying that his problem will be solved with ASV? (not just MS inability to display true overcast?) I too have the problem of seeing the airport from miles away even when the METAR is IFR. It seems that MS is loading the local weather too late, about 2-3 miles out. Maybe it is because the weather system is displaying a closer airport that is VFR?Mike
July 26, 200520 yr Hi Mike,Yes I am! And you can even use our wx Configurator to create your own conditions when your favorite airport is not IFR.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
July 26, 200520 yr Hi Pilot,A few honest thoughts:1. I do know of at least one user running a P4 1.8 I think he uses the 256 X 256 clouds with OK results. However, he has a stand alone video card.2. How do you get 400 meg RAM? A 256 plus a 128 stick?3. Yes, your video card, but not sure what your motherboard could accept. Do you know if it has an AGP slot?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
July 26, 200520 yr To answer the original question, I can't say for certain since I don't know which airport you were at but I've run into this several times myself. When using real wx each airport seems to have an area around it of unknown (to me) size that is affected by that particular airports metar. If you have two airports that are relativly close together the metars seem to cut into another airports airspace. Obviously if they both had the same reported wx it wouldn't be a problem, but as you know wx can be finicky. So, to put it simply, I think the problem is that your on approach to your destination but your still flying in the wx for a neighboring airport. The transition is the problem, hopefully this will be addressed in the next version.B. Bjorkman
July 26, 200520 yr Author Hi Jim,Ya I have a 128 plus a 256, but in total hoesty I didnt feel like adding it up to get the exact number so I just estimated at 400(Lazy I know LOL)Ya my PC has an AGP slot, I s that a good or bad thing? You must excuse my ignorance but there are 2 types of cards correct? an ATI and an AGP right? To tell which slot you have the AGP is longer than the ATI is that right. My computer says I have an extreme Graphics AGP 3D card so im assuming I have an AGP slot.Im very interrested in active sky and seriously thinking of purchasing. But have to wait to download it because I have exceeded my downlaod limit(AARRRGGGGHHHH). July 26, 200520 yr Hi,AGP is a good thing. Two major makes: ATI and NVIDEATwo older card slot styles: PCI and AGP, with AGP being the newer. No, your integrated video is on your motherboard. You may or may not have an AGP slot.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
July 26, 200520 yr I have some serious respect for you running FS9 on a machine like that. Not trying to laugh at you at all. I am just looking at what I've spent on FS and it's scary...non-speaking of what I spent on real world flying that is.And it's not like I am rich i am just insane. Like what my boss said to me, "once you are bitten by the aviation bug you are done."Now back to your topic I think the first thing you might want to consider is a video card. As far as ASV goes, I've use every version of their product and it's the best. You might even get better performance from ASV because I think some of their cloud textures are smaller than FS9 defaults.Best,Jason JasonFAA CPL SEL MEL IR CFI-I MEI AGI
