July 27, 200520 yr Mine's 3.5GB, and that's with my photoreal Tucson scenery! Who has the smallest FS folder?
July 28, 200520 yr Yep,and next week will be the annual "Looky how many icons I have on my desktop, har!how many do you have?"Then they wonder why it takes five minutes to boot up to where you can run any programs....David
July 28, 200520 yr >Mine's 3.5GB, and that's with my photoreal Tucson scenery!>Who has the smallest FS folder?2.8GB here. But I'm also using FS2002.
July 28, 200520 yr >That's costing you performance pure & simple.Jim, no it's not. I got my system running perfectly smooth, it's running as fast as it was with 10GB or less, only moment where I feel a loading time is when I want to enter aircraft list, it takes more time to list them. But, that's it. Disk is defragged weekly, and performance is just great. Only problem I got now is due to overheating sometimes, but it's just cuz it's pretty warm here.
July 28, 200520 yr Commercial Member Do you guys remember a utility that MS Office installed called "findfast" and all the hoopla a few yrs back about shutting it down in msconfig because it was bringing a lot of computers to their knees by running some kind of dynamic index of files or something? I never pretended to understand it, but I once read somewhere that FS uses a variant of this to index your fs folder while the sim is running. For that reason it was advised to keep your FS folder as small as possible. Probably BS, and now that you mention it, I haven't seen anything to that effect in several years so it probably was just some guy on some forum blowing smoke up everybody's a--.Anyway, I like to at least imagine that my sim runs better if I clean all the unused crap out every once in a while, and besides, I'm old and if I don't stay on top of it I'll forget whats been added on and what's default :) . Have I actually quantified any performance gain after a cleanup? No.Maybe I'm just jealous of all you guys with high speed connections because I'm still stuck on good ole dial-up :) .Jim
July 28, 200520 yr >Maybe I'm just jealous of all you guys with high speed>connections because I'm still stuck on good ole dial-up :) .Oh oh dude, so sorry bout dialup! I know how it was back then, like 8 years ago last time. 12mbit here :) I hope you get something faster soon.
July 28, 200520 yr >Ah, the annual 'size' comparison. Bet you've got a gold>chain and a red Corvette, too, Word Not Allowed ;-) I'd like to know who>your '4 silent fans' are :9 Mark, LOL!!!Ah, Corvette is just too weak. I'd prefer a F360 Spider. And man, do I hate gold chains!Btw. those fans are veeeeeeeeeeeeery secretive! They rather prefer not to discover themselves :-lolPS. 4x Papst 8412 NGMLV.
