Actually, thinking about it, at a fan convention, that clip would have probably gotten cheers, and here's why.

 

While we have seen from earlier clips that the black character was apparently a stormtrooper, and we have seen him a few times with the female lead, this is the first hint that he might turn out to be the main "Jedi" character of the film. (Mark Hamill being a bit old except maybe for an older Ben Kenobi type role.)

 

More, In the forest scene where the presumed bad guy is seen in a wintry forest with his tri-forked Lightsaber, we can now place the films (possibly) Jedi character as well, hinting of a possible confrontation.........?

 

Teaser indeed.

 

I'm suspecting the whole point of that short clip was to get it out into the ether that the stormtrooper might also be a Jedi, at least potentially.

 

Let the speculation begin!

I don't really see the point in the weird light saber's two side beams though. They are too short by far, IMHO.

I think it's been a long-term criticism of lightsabers that in a block, an opponent could simply slide his blade down yours, and slice your hands off at the wrist if you weren't quick enough.
