Airbus - lack of support?

Featured Replies

Airbus used to be fairly open with information, there was a time when the website had thorough manuals and specs for all it's aircraft, aircraft characteristics manuals, maintenence facility planning manuals and even reference Flight crew operating manuals with the ins and outs of the systems, FMC's etc, Post September 2001 they were all taken offline and are now protected, access only being granted to Airbus customers.I'm sure some developers have got them all saved somewhere... I know I have. :-hah

G'day AllThe trouble with doing an Airbus is i still think it is beyond even the best software houses to develope.I would have thought PMDG may give it a fair shake but i have my doubts. The problem is not in normal ops as the A/P modes are relatively similar in most respects to Boeing equivalents with one or two addons. The problems lie in failure simulation which is what really sets them apart. In a Boeing you are going through a QRH to action failures. In an Airbus your actions are generally being driven by Ecam and it knows when switches have been moved etc.Certain actions lead to more or slightly different results.A step by step guide to any problem in most situations. To accurately reflect the real difference in philosophy between Airbus and Boeing ECAM needs to be simulated otherwise they are realy just the same thing dressed indifferent colors.I am wondering if anyone has the knowledge and ability to model the Ecam and its procedure well inthe FS9 environment.A320 PIC went about a 1/3 of the way.I doubt anyone else is prepared to take on the last 2/3rd's.Darren

As Bob said there sure is enough data about to build a bus that is 85% - 95% there instead of the 40-50% buses currently available. I think performance data is the most difficult thing to obtain. The Airbus FCOMs are very comprehensive and so is the Honeywell documentation. I am no expert but surely the question of copyright is an issue. Without the support of manufacturers surely any presentation of the Airbus and Honeywell systems that is remotely accurate could be construed as a copyright breach.

As a reply to my original post - I am hooked flying the PSS Airbus. Now just give me a nicer panel and maybe a cabin and I am one happy camper!I do have the PMDG 737 and still somehow prefer to fly my Airbus...

Like many, I live in hope that someday, some version of fs some quality developer will pick up where PSS left off and produce a modern Airbus sim at or even close to LDS or PMDG level that really does the aircraft justice.regards,MarkXPHomeSP2/FS9.1/3.2HT/1GIG/X700pro256

Maybe because people are more interested in FLYING an aircraft than programming a computer that flies it for them. After all, it is called a FLIGHT simulator, not an autopilot simulator. ;-)....ducking...

Nice try. No significant differences between any of the commercial jet transports in that regard. You can fly 'em manually, or you can program the "computer" and fly it on autopilot.Don S.
