October 28, 201510 yr Packed to capacity with emergency goods we head from idyllic Saidor at Papua’s East Coast south of Madang across the less than idyllic Finisterre mountain range and plan to deliver our goods in the shortest possible time in Gusap, which is located west of the mountains. Saidor (SDR) is at the top right corner of the map. And yes, the mountain range is the problem, it can go up to 11,000 ft. Due to the short delivery time we have to try to cross the mountains instead of flying around them. Our Goose isn’t exactly famous for being a superb climber, but we have to give it a shot. We leave the sheltered little cove and head out into the open sea That went quite well We are not flying above the mountains, we fly through them That’s what we have to cross Here we goooooo I think I looked a few monkeys straight into their surprised eyes Brave old girl, from now onwards everything else is easy That’s part of Gusap, the airstrip is very close now Now…don’t just sit there and read your papers.
