P3D V2 and V3 Do Not Co-exist

Featured Replies

2.5 and v3 do indeed coexist and play well together on the same partition here and have for a good while now.

v3 Installers are beginning to come together as well.

I have been slowly. cautiously, installing P3D V3 on my system.

Unfortunately, it has completely corrupted my version of P3D v2.5, in that the "Prepar3d V2 Files" under "Documents" no longer exists. Instead, they are now "Prepar3d v3 Files".

Guess what: all my flights, all my airports, from Prepar3D v2 are gone.

I am growing weary of this crap...

laffffinnnnn at the curmudgeonly comment!...kinda reminds me of someone I know...

ok y'all anti-Naysayers....I just followed the thread that pointed to all the lovely new Orbx P3dv3 installers...spent hours and hrs downloadng and installing them...

All or my Orbx stuff was working just updatedly ducky in P3dv2.5....I deleted it all for the sake of harmony and love betwixt the P3d versions....HAH!

Thanks a lot Orbx, LM!...installed them all, and now half are installed in P3dv2, and half in P3dV3..,

How the he11 do I fly EITHER, and use ALL of my Orbx DLC,

when half of my Orbx files http://i.imgur.com/8XdwMlC

are installed in the other version..?

I am sure I am being a curmudgeonly doodoo-stupit-head, so I will simply thank in advance for their speedy reply, the person or persons with the solution to my problem...to, point out the errors of this ol' man's thinking that...

...upgrading is a major pain in the A$$!

Chas - rename the p3d2 folder so it doesn't match the registry. Reinstall ALL the ORBX stuff that has v3 installers. If you still want to use 2.5 - repeat process renaming 3.0 folder and install the v2 files. After that set both folders back. You should be able to use either.

be sure the EMT is not active, if you use it. Also do not try t install v2 files into v3 unless hey have the installer.

Vic,

Sure does sound like I am turning 64 Gigs of Orbx files into 128...by installing the way you suggest.

Thanks,

Chas

Same here...no problems.

Unfortunately, because ORBX installs their files directly into the root directory of the simulator, that's exactly what will happen - you'll end up with two complete ORBX installations; one in 2.5, and one in 3.0

Beginning in 3.0, and for the future, LM would much prefer that add-on developers would install products externally to the core sim folders, with links to the product in cfg files - which would avoid this very situation. Whether ORBX ever will, (or even CAN without completely redesigning their products), remains to be seen.

Fortunately, many of the FTX textures are replacements, supplementing the originals, so it's not quite as simple as doubling the size, but they certainly do still exist in the main folders. :Shame On You:

The key is make the ORBX folder a symbolic link and remove it from the base v2.5/v3 folders and place it on another drive.

In my case, currently 32 gig not on the sim drive...
