Stew, let's hope that Nick can get his laptop-powered FSX to work. If so, we shall stay with the beautiful Canary Islands and enjoy Nick's commentary and company.

 

If that does not work out, then to Northern California. The much shorter hops suggest more "down-to-earth" aircraft.

Good news, it looks like I can fly the Canaries today, if you all want to.  I've got the scenery and an aircraft (freeware Iris PC-9) into a new installation of FSX on this laptop and it's stable with good frame rates - albeit with a long list of compromises but I have the scenery showing up well and I can fly smoothly (don't even think of asking about weather, I'm going with everything clear, and you'll all be showing up in default aircraft).

Back to the Canaries...this will be great.

Went to \...\Orbx\FTX_Vector_AEC\scenery and turned off AEC_GCXO.bgl and no more canyons on the runway.  I suspect the same will be true of the other airport where I had elevation problems.

I ordered my replacement PC last night, I'm having one custom built to a spec I spent most of Sunday working on. I usually want to get 5 years out of a PC, so I figured it was worth the time investment to get it right.  And as everyone's comments confirmed my own instincts, it will be coming with Windows 7!  The builder's website says they're working on around 7-9 working days lead time for delivery at the moment (I've probably beaten the Xmas rush) so just a chance I might have it for the Saturday flight in two weeks time :Big Grin:

Since I missed this flight due to illness, I have just loaded up the scenery and flightplan and am flying it now.
