September 9, 200520 yr Can anyone tell me what's happened to the Flight1 and/or Dreamfleet website? Is it due to Katrina or have they gone down permanently?ThanksGraham
September 9, 200520 yr This is the Internet. Sites go down all the time because of hardware problems, network issues both at the site and beyond, and, sometimes, a hurricane. I hardly think that Flight1 and/or Dreamfleet have shut their site down permamently. Give it a bit and see what happens...billg
September 9, 200520 yr It's been down since about last weekend and I presumed it was the hurricane but wondered if anyone knew what was happening.Graham
September 9, 200520 yr I have been visiting both sites regularly over the last few days, including just now after reading your post. Both sites are just fine for me.www.Flight1.comhttp://www.dreamfleet2000.comTony=http://www.flightsim-bevs.com]
September 9, 200520 yr That's very strange. I haven't been able to get into either of them for about a week, and still can't now. I use two browsers, IE6 and Mozilla Firefox and they're both the same. Firefox gives me the message that "www.flight1.com could not be found. Please check the name and try again" Same sort of thing with Internet Explorer. Tried turning my firewall off and that didn't work either. Thanks anyway, I'll keep trying.Graham
September 9, 200520 yr I understand a primary internet trunk went through New Orleans, so that could be part of the original cause. Perhaps refreshing your cache would help?Tony=http://www.flightsim-bevs.com]
September 9, 200520 yr It's probably a DNS server issue. DNS servers are responsible for converting domain names (e.g. http://www.flight1.com) into numeric IP addresses (e.g. 69.61.31.68). Each service provider maintains their own DNS servers and sometimes these get out of synch with the rest of the world. To confirm that it is a DNS server issue, try going directly to the Flight1 site at http://69.61.31.68/ If you can connect to the site using the IP address, contact your ISP and let them know that you are experiencing DNS problems.
September 9, 200520 yr It is very useful to learn to use the command IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS on your computer (XP-W2K), and most of the other command switches for IPCONFIG.I don't have the books from my last MicroSoft IP Class, but the DNS server is about the fourth place in line when your computer / browser looks for a web site. The DNS cache on the computer is the issue the vast majority of the time.Another issue can be the DNS server used by your internet service provider. Many ISP's use caching servers to minimize the cost of actually going to the internet. AOL has one of the biggest cache setups in the world, as a example. These servers can have DNS issues. I've had to call Verizon a couple times and complain / submit a ticket to get then to refresh the DNS server.
September 9, 200520 yr Intercosmos Media dba DirectNIC is a larger domain registrar which is HQ in New Orleans, but they maintianed connectivity via their provider, I-55 telecom. They were down to a single OC3 at one point, but now I think SBC et al are pretty much restoring things.Flight1 is using Network Solutions.scott s..
September 9, 200520 yr Interesting, I am apparently having problems with www.kensalter.com not being able to be reached by people.I wonder if there is a relation.
September 9, 200520 yr Hi Ken,I don't know if this helps, but I can get into Flight1 and Dreamfleet, but I just tried and can't get to your site.Tony=http://www.flightsim-bevs.com]
September 9, 200520 yr Commercial Member It seems to be a UK problem with a few ISP's only. We have had no reports of any site outages recently. Thanks, Steve Halpern Flight One Software
