January 11, 201610 yr Everyone listen up, there is absolutely no reason you should use 16bit graphics modes these days. Any processor from the last decade works with 32 bit values internally (x86 applications, x64 apps integers are 64bit) and using 16 bit color mode accually slows things down and limits the amount of colors to 65535 (hex $FFFF) and maybe some of those bits are used as alpha as well so the number of colors decrese ever further. So of course 32bit is the only way to show all the 16 million colours our displays are made to show. This is such basic knowledge, a no brainer really.

Thank you for that, but this post/thread was not about getting max colors. This post was getting an 'effect' not seen USING 32 bit. Most persons WOULD use 32 bit, in anything and any case......but this was about a singularity of effect (sun glint) IF, you used the 16 bit mode. The glint is masked and dulled by having 32 bit being rendered. I was never promoting that one should CHANGE to 16 bit, as opposed to 32 bit for all viewing, and usage. I clearly stated it was so the sun glint would come out of 32 bit 'hiding'. I hope this post clears that up, once and for all. Cheers, Mitch

January 11, 201610 yr When I lived in Louisiana, we called that "crawfishing". Oh, you recognized that too, eh? John Martin
January 11, 201610 yr Author When I lived in Louisiana, we called that "crawfishing". When I visited New Orleans, we called that eating them, and washing them down with beer. You guys kill me...really. All this parsing of semantics.
January 11, 201610 yr Author "to back out or retreat from a position or undertaking" Then, you never understood the intent of this whole thread. I'll leave it at that... You are not the author of this thread...and you can not read minds... This is the last paragraph from my initial/original post. I do not see any reason to be 'backing of a position, or crawfishing' out of anything I posted in the course of this tread. Nothing. Perhaps you read differently, No problem. Good evening My last paragraph of my original posting: 'One more tip...also set your sim to a 16 color bit setting to see the effects that has...quite nice as well...greater depth of color actually, over 32 bit...even if you wouldn't think so... So..try both 16 and 32 bit color resolution settings to see what you prefer to fly and view with. Choice is good! Colors in full screen mode will show as darker and richer in 16 bit....good for daytime, but switch to 32 bit, near Dusk...' Enough said...truly...the reader has enough information to explore if they wish, upon the content, or do nothing. End game.
January 12, 201610 yr Who cares, right or wrong, works or doesnt, at least we're still talking about FS9 looking good. I see some have quit P3D due to all its short comings and problems. So it could be worse... Yep, totally. Anyone working on anything for FS9 is great be it useful to the individual or not. This topic isn't for me but carry on I say... Leaving P3D??? Haha, I have tried to understand why FSX/P3D for so many but it's still a mystery to me. Only thing I'm worrying about is planning my 2020 gaming only PC so I can continue with an excellent FS9 sim well into the future on my Win 7. Mark Daniels
