January 25, 201610 yr Cliff, They are alternate systems to operate the gear and flaps. The manuals provide extensive information on all systems, including these ones. I'm sure everyone here would agree that their enjoyment of the product has increased because they took the time to learn a bit about the aircraft. If you have questions after reading the relevant sections of the manuals, then folks here are all too happy to help you out! Mark Adeane - NZWN

January 25, 201610 yr Author To both of you...my thanks. You're spot-on pointing out that the answers are there for the taking. I know it's not really a valid excuse but being in my latish eighties I'm beginning to realise that "the old grey mare she aint what she used to be!". Never-the-less I get a kick out of the learning curve of this sophisticated "baby" and I'm not going to give up easily. Currently I'm at the stage of creating Flight Plans with PfPx and flying them with fewer mistakes every time I complete a new flight. And, of course, the more I learn the more I realise how little I know. But it's satisfying. Mastering the FMC and taking over from it in the descent phase. Handling bad weather, dealing with emergencies, learning about scenery add-ons, starting from cold and dark......I could go on listing the endless relevant subjects of which I'm so ignorant. With my regards, Cliff Cliff Harris
January 25, 201610 yr Cliff, I can't think of anything better for keeping the mind sharp than learning the systems of a 777 and then managing a flight in its entirety! Much more fun than a crossword anyway. Rest assured you'll find plenty of support here to help you along the way. best of luck! Mark Adeane - NZWN
January 28, 201610 yr What are: ALT Gear Extend Nose/Body? Cliff See post #4 of this thread - http://www.avsim.com/topic/482550-fmc-t7/. You also could use this feature to answer some of your own questions. For example the quoted question can be answered by typing ALTN GEAR in the find box in FCOM2. Use the exact wording beside, above, or below what ever you are interested in. Wither to search FCOM1, FCOM2, FCTM, or the Tutorials will come with experience. Good luck Michael Cubine
January 28, 201610 yr Hello Cliff, you also might consider watching some videos, for example Kyle Rodgers here in the forum, or "frooglesim" on youtube. They also give detailed explanations. (Be careful though when you "google" for PMDG 777 video's on the internet: a lot of people post video's; not all of them are of the same quality). There is also a company ("Angle of attack") they make very detailed video's, it's is payware. Don't worry about the learning curve: this simulation is so very detailed, you learn something every flight. Sometimes I wonder if Mr Randazzo himself is staring at some EICAS message and asks himself what it means. You also can learn a lot from other people's questions her in the forum. Happy landings, Regards, Wijnand Lindelauf (EHBK) Wijnand Lindelauf (EHBK)
January 28, 201610 yr Author Quite apart from the knowledge I'm picking up from the helpfulness on Members (like those of you in this string) and from "learning on the job" the last tips on where to find answers will I suspect probably prove mightily useful. I hadn't realised what a wealth of information those Manuals offer. So....as they say here in Spain...muchas gracias amigos! With my Regards, Cliff Cliff Harris
