April 18, 201610 yr Author Thanks to all for the great feedback to my initial question! You even got me almost convinced that integrating the GTN is a good idea. Nevertheless one thing I really hate about the GTN is the fact that I don't have access to navdata updates. I have a Navigraph subscription so that is another pro for the integrated FMS. With Navigraph I have consistent navdata across the aircraft, PFPX and Pro-ATC/X. But I think, I will get the CJ2 and then just try both options and decide which one I like most. Anyways, thanks a lot to the mod crew for all the continued effort you put into the Carenado aircraft! [email protected] ∣ Asus ROG Strix B650E-E ∣ 64Gb@6000MT ∣ NVidia 5090 FE

Maybe you can come back and tell the viewers/readers about your experiences and your choice for your flying time. And the winner is..... To be continued. Best Regards, Ray When Pigs Fly . If yes could you please share some installation guide how to install this mod but without GTN? Thanks in advance!
April 28, 20179 yr This RW STC was just awarded last month: http://www.aviationpros.com/press_release/12315103/jettechs-garmin-gtn-install-receives-stc-approval-for-cjs-equipped-with-proline-21-fgc-3000-digital-fcs As some may know, there's a FAA mandate for ADS-B capability by the year 2020. This involves new transponders, WAAS, etc. There has existed a problem with PL21 equipped CJ's in meeting this requirement. The Rockwell Collins solution is expensive and not feasible for many operators. The GTN STC is more doable. Expect to see this retrofit become the norm for all PL21 CJ's up through the CJ3. The FMC component of the PL21, as well as the Collins transponders, is replaced with Garmin ADS-B transponders, remoted though the GTN's. Also, the GTN nav/coms, replace the Collins DCU's, or in the case of older CJ's like the straight CJ2, the Bendix King radio stack is replaced. Bottom line, the infatuation among many in the FS community with the old FMC technology, is not the direction RW aviation is going. The idea is to make flight planning and management easier, not harder. I'll never understand why some simmers are obsessed with mastery of antiquated technology. It really has little to do with airmanship or aeronautical literacy. Just shows you can type.

It's just that I prefer to manage an aircraft through an FMC rather than the touch interface of the GTN. Feels more like an airliner. This is of course my very personal and subjective opinion. But I hear you that the GTN offers more functionality... Best regards Carlo The reason the old keyboard technology is abundant among airliners, is it isn't economically and logistically viable to retrofit entire fleets with new avionics suites. The CJ2 isn't an airliner. Corporate and individual owners, aren't faced with the issues airlines have in updating avionics. The GTN is a modern and cost efficient replacement for the old clunky FMC.
December 4, 20178 yr Having flown the Carenado CJ2 extensively for about a year now, with and without the mod, I would say the main issue with the Carenado PL21 is it's lack of functionality compared to the real PL21. My biggest issue is it's lack of radius to fix turns, when the F1 GTN performs them flawlessly. The PL21 comes upon a fix with a heading change, and makes abrupt turns circa FS2002 style. Bottom line, there's no suitable PL21 available for FS, that performs as good as the F1 GTN. Being most of us don't actually have physical FMS keyboards, I see little difference in punching numbers on a GTN, compared to a PL21. The goal is the same, and the F1 GTN gets better results.
