Are airports runways directions/numbers fixed compare to FSX?

Featured Replies

In my FSX, this runway is now marked as 10L.

No AFCADs required..

Well it doesn't work in P3D. In addition that file is really small, how is going to update and change every runway marking and airport signage on every airport  from such a small file?

install this:

Already installed, several times, updated periodically.

I just installed it for P3D, and it did change the runway markings at KFLL..

Select "North America" on this page:

That is the one I use, and I use the auto installer. Now I am thinking that I have My Traffic 6, which has BGL's for many airports including KFLL. Possibly that is why the runway numbers are not changing when I run this updater. Actually the old numbers don't bother me, since that was the way they were when I got my license.

Well yes, if you have another program that overrides it... all bets are off.

Now I am curious, so I just posted this question on the forum for this updater. I will report back what Herve says.

Herve's program updates the default airport BGL files, any higher-priority AFCAD that may exist for the same airport will take precedence, and can prevent the updated runway marking from being visible.

I have a freeware KFLL AFCAD that I downloaded from the Avsim file library a couple of years ago, to improve the default terminal and gate layouts. I also apply Herve's navaid and ILS updates every month. If I disable the add-on AFCAD in the scenery library, the runways at KFLL are marked 10-28 - when it is enabled, they are the older 9-27.

That was it.  I just renamed KFLL.bgl in the My Traffic 6 scenery directory to passive, and then went to the airport in P3D, and now the runways are 10 L and 10 R and the taxiway signs have all been changed. So Bert was correct, and the MT6 airports override the changes  that are made by the  Navaid update.

That's correct. Now, if you like to keep your 3rd party scenery (because it provides some enhancements), a possible way is just to change runway numbering inside your KFLL.bgl  (for your personal use) using the ILS/Runway inspector and editor tool you'll find on my site. Many scenery editors do not provide updates at the time such changes occur. A backup of the original file is automatically done by the software, so you don't have to worry about that. Taxiway signs and associated approaches (if any) will be updated accordingly. You can give it a try
