January 5, 20179 yr There is no "best flight sim"...they all have advantages and disadvantages Straight VFR - probably X-Plane IFR/VFR with seasons - FSX / P3D Best Weather - FSX / P3D X-Plane is currently $50 for both v10 & v11 FSX steam is less than $10 when on sale P3D $60 for an Academic licence I have all of them, I use each for different purposes. FSX - Flight1 ATR X-Plane - SaaB 340 P3D - Everything else I have been simming for 20 years...I designed scenery for some of the earlier version of Microsofts offerings. I shudder to think how much time and money I have sunk into addons and hardware. Don't get set into a mindset that "there can be only one" 9800X3D + RTX 4080 + 64GB DDR5

January 6, 20179 yr The Flight1 ATR was first released in 2004! - and still no one has bettered it. It is suffering a bit from time..and although it received an upgrade to FSX it can be flakey at times. It needs the service pack to upgrade the model It needs the fix to stop opaque windows in the rain The FMS is prone to crashing. I still love it...I spent many hours in the jump seat on real ATR's ...those NZ pilots treated it more like a bush plane than an airliner. 9800X3D + RTX 4080 + 64GB DDR5
October 27, 20178 yr P3D and $100+ dollars worth of addons is probably a quite a bit better than X-Plane with no addons. If you are not planning on not using addons, X-Plane would be the way to go. If you are coming from FSX, I would recommend P3D so you don't need to relearn something all over again. X-Plane is totally different from FSX or P3D You might want to check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pE-gy_X4wJs&t=594s&index=26&list=PLckwOtyXzCXImZy_6l8alMBXR69ZEsmjh X-Plane also now has a demo from their website which is probably better than Steam's refund. I’d imagine he’s probably made a decision by now. Its probably safe to lock this one and move on. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
