Does FTX Global still have desert issues?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I am currently thinking about upgrading my FSX texture sets and when I was taking a look at FTX Global two years ago it was a real deal breaker for me that it turned desert Areas and especially Cities "green" back then. That was especialls true then using Scenery-Tech Landclass Addons, which I do for regions outside UTX.

Has this been fixed or were there other developments regarding accurate landclass placements?

No not quite.  For FS Global in the Phoenix area most of the small mountains are lush green with spruce type trees.  With NA Open LC it is somewhat better as the green polka-dots representing cactus are gone but the tops of most mountains still are green with trees when they should be barren rock mixed with scrub brush.  I think it may be a bug though as when you get outside the city that's mostly gone and mountains are rocky with mostly scrubby bushes and looks good.

I live 150 miles east of El Paso and I know the Western Desert well.

I just installed Open Landclass NA and can say that it was worth the effort.

It is a big improvement over anything else I have tried.  It's not perfect, no product will ever be, but it is a big visual improvement for the Southwest's desert areas.

OK thanks for the answers, but I suppose I need the corresponding OpenLC product as well then. Which makes 200 Au$ or 160€ for me then.

Thats still kind of disappointing because it means that when I fly to Dubai in a 777X, the airport will still be surrounded by gasslands.....

I'm in the same situation and am trying to decide if I want to purchase Open LC NA.  Sadly, without it the deserts of the southwest look terrible in FTX Global.  I am re-considering photoscenery instead!

No Sale for me, ill stick with GEX then. Although its a shame they dont have the road lighting that UTX and FTX offer and I grew a bit tired of its yellow looks....

I hope this didn't sound as harsh as it appears and is the cause of consternation  .  Overall, the desert has completely been transformed with NA Open LC and the city of Phoenix looks marvelous as far as the autogen houses and building variety and even the ground textures of the yards are desert like...but..most small mountains IN THE CITY ONLY have the greenery and trees on them on the tops.  Once out of the city mountains look completely barren rock and have that great scrubby bushes texture seen in southern cal just like a desert should.  IMO GEX just can't compare. Just wanted to clarify this.

Yes I believe you, and its without question that inside FTX regions nothing comes close to that. But my problem is that I do not only fly inside the US (or Europe) and constantly look for ways to make the other areas of the world look better. Scenery designers unfortunately will never do an Addon like UTX or FTX South America or Africa,  I am convinced about that since all of them prefer to release v2, v3 and so on of Europe and the US. Quite a shame because that raises the question why we have such great Long Haul Airliners. ;)

Appears too many customers enjoy flying around their own house ;)

That being said I stepped away from FTX two years ago because its greatly improves the moderate climate zone textures, but screw up any southern areas. GEX is the only way to go here, but doesnt provide the same quality.

When Global first came out I was very upset over the pea-soup green desert of the American Southwest.  But that has been fixed.  I live in southeastern New Mexico right in the transition zone between the prairie and the Chihuahuan  desert.  The ground textures look alright to me.  The only bugs I see are water in what should be dry lake beds; like Lake Lucero which is the source of the sand for White Sands National park.  I just ignore them.  The products are outstanding for the price.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

How  true  no product  will be  ever  be  perfect  to what you see outside  your window  than what you see  in the sim

Right now I am forced to the ground by an installation error anyways. Seems like I have some time to decide about that. ;)
