FSX-SE Any Tweaks needed?

Featured Replies

New to the Steam Edition of FSX.  I see conflicting information on tweaking. All the post seem a year or two old. As of today does it need any?

I've owned every version of flight simulator since Flight Simulator 3.0 in 1988.

Windows 11 Pro loaded on a 4TB Gen5 Crucial T700 SSD, 4TB Samsung 990 Pro SSD, Ryzen 9 7950x3d, AS Rock X670e Taichi Motherboard, Gigabyte Gaming RTX 4090 OC 24GB, 64GB (2x32GB) Viper Venom  DDR5-6000MT/s, MSI 32" MAG 321UPX QD-OLED 260hz 4K Gaming Monitor.

the important tweaks, highmemfix and bufferpools, are already added. Just change TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD= to 4096 if you have a good computer and want it to load the high quality textures when available. Also add affinity mask and the number depending on your cpu and number of cores. Other than that, not much else is needed. Tell me how it runs I am thinking of moving to FSX Steam from FSX Acceleration because of the better memory management.

i have no tweaks in fsx steam and it runs great. i have a i7 6850k and a gtx 980 TI

4096 is a pretty big number... I doubt you would see a difference with 2048.

I would start there..

Some high quality repaints are in 4096 resolution, so even if the rest of your textures are smaller you will have a nice looking repaint. If your computer can handle it, might as well give it a try!

I only use 2048 for the textures AND fiber_frame_time_fraction=14 in my i5 leaving the first core out of the pool available for FSX, which is good because other apps and Windows use it ( ASN and AS16 for instance use the first core too ).

Of course I use FSX just for PMDG's 777, the upcoming FSLabs A320, A2A's C172, C182 and Comanche, and the only scenery I have installed is Aerosoft LPMA - the rest is plain vanilla FSX:SE in DX9 mode, all shadows off, etc...  For scenery looking at low alt I use Aerofly FS 2 ...  just as for real IFR trainning I want nothing but ELITE, and for the 747-400 Aerowinx PSX - each on it's own :-)

I assume you mean AffinityMask = 14
