August 20, 20169 yr I've used FRAPS for ever, since FS9 and FSX. I can start FRAPS and P3Dv3, but my frame rates drop like a rock, to the point it just freezes. What video capturing software are you guys using when capturing videos in P3D? Johnny Rosario
August 20, 20169 yr Try Mirillis Action or the built-in Shadow Play that comes with the Nvidia drivers.
August 20, 20169 yr Author I've heard from some folks that they are having frame issues using ShadowPlay. I would love to use FRAPS, but it's killing me in the frame rates department. Johnny Rosario
August 20, 20169 yr OBS Same here. I don't record too much, but when I do I use OBS and it's worked great for me.
August 20, 20169 yr Author I was just looking online for OBS. Interesting, and the best thing is that is free. You don't have anything to lose by trying it. Johnny Rosario
August 20, 20169 yr Author I just gave OBS a spin, and I thought I was recording, better frame rates, and I was even able to see P3D on the pre screen window, but when I ran the video to view, I heard sound, but no video. I'm sure I missed a step and will check again. However, did not freeze on me like FRAPS. Johnny Rosario
August 20, 20169 yr Commercial Member Johnny... the videos you've seen me make for the XLS+ were ShadowPlay: Ed Wilson Mindstar AviationMy Playland - I69
August 20, 20169 yr Author Thanks Ed, but I just finish testing OBS, and for the price of $0.00, you can't beat it. Getting excellent frame rates with it. I'll give ShadowPlay a spin too tomorrow, and see if the rates are even better. By the way, I like how the XLS+ is starting to take shape. Can't wait to see her release one day. Johnny Rosario
August 20, 20169 yr The best performing video capture software for both performance and file size was GameCam. Unfortunately it is no longer available and the registration system was removed. The one I use now which is close is Bandicam. The frame hit is a little more then GameCam, but still not as bad as FRAPS and the file size footprint is about the same. I can record a 2 hour video with about 1.8GB disk space. I'd need a bigger hard drive to do that with FRAPS. Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
August 20, 20169 yr Author I remember using GameCam back in 2004, but stop using it as soon as I bought FRAPS. Never had any complaint about FRAPS just until now that I switch to P3D. Disk space is not an issue for me, since I have a separate drive to store my vides with over 3TB of space. Johnny Rosario
August 20, 20169 yr Commercial Member ShadowPlay has a zero, and I really do mean zero impact on frames. It's a hardware accelerated recording system that utilizes the built in H.264 encoder on your video card to record videos in MP4 format. It can record up to 4K resolution at 130bps with minimal performance impact. There is no software that will be able to compete with that. Ed Wilson Mindstar AviationMy Playland - I69
August 20, 20169 yr Author Sounds like a winner to me, Ed. I'll give ShadowPlay a spin soon. Johnny Rosario
