September 23, 20169 yr I have read a great deal of posts regarding affinity assignments for various processors and want to verify my understanding regarding my i5-2500K. I run it water cooled to 4.5Ghz with a GTX 1070 and am very happy with the performance. I don't use an affinity mask assignment in my config file because my processor has no hyper threading and only 4 cores which P3D now automatically uses as best it can, to my understanding. I use SimStarter NG to assign cores to my add on applications. By default P3D runs on all 4 cores which is fine. When I monitor core usage during flights Core 0 my first core is the primary core most utilized. I use SimStarter to assign all my other add ons like AS16, Track IR, SpadNext, VoiceAttack etc.. to cores 2,3,4 so to free up the first core for P3D. Additionally the GTN 750 add on has its own built in core assignment setting and I use core 2, again to keep it off the first core. Does this approach seem correct for my 4 core processor with no HT? P3D on all 4 cores (tasking core 1 the most) and everything else off core 1 running on the other 3 cores (cores 2,3,4) with the exception of GTN 750 running only on core 2? One additional point I set P3D to run at "high" priority instead of "normal" also in SimStarter. Feedback greatly appreciated! September 23, 20169 yr Hi, I have the very same situation: 4 cores, HT off, SimStarter, Addons on cores 2-4 and priority high. Works quite well on my dated system. September 24, 20169 yr When I monitor core usage during flights Core 0 my first core is the primary core most utilized. In fact, P3D always loads the first logical core much more than others. I'm not sure if this is P3D or the OS. I monitor with Process Explorer and will change the affinity with it during a session to even the loading between cores. For example, core 0 is at 100% and others are 60-80% so I turn core 0 off for P3D for a few moments then back on and presto! All four cores are evenly loaded. Not sure it makes a difference but it's something I like to do, Dan Downs KCRP
September 27, 20169 yr Is there any other way to set affinity than SimStarter in Windows 10? I recently updated Windows and I used to use Prio but as far as I know Prio doesn't work in Windows 10. Is there any similar alternative in Windows 10 (Prio was extremely lightweight application)? Tomaz Drnovsek My FSX Videos My AVSIM Gallery

September 27, 20169 yr Thanks, I'll check it out. Does this also work with "external" applications like AS16 and TrackIR? Yep, that's the way I start AS16 and - at the moment - OpusFSI (cameras only). September 27, 20169 yr Author Process Lasso is another frequently used piece of software https://bitsum.com/ I still highly recommend SimStarter NG. I new version will release shortly to also incorporate AS16 and ASCA directly into the menu choices like it has done for Active Sky Net in the past.
