December 25, 200520 yr I was wondering if anyone knows of any ATC add-ons besides VoxATC and Radar Contact? Is there a list of them compiled somewhere?VoxATC looks interesting but I'm looking for something that will still let me use the keyboard to respond (for when I'm flying late at night w/ headphones). Radar Contact looks really cool but I want something I can buy and download, not have to jump through hoops to get. I will probably buy it anyway but I was looking for something I could play with this week as I'm on vacation. So is there anything else out there that I should look at? I checked Flight1's site but I didn't see any ATC add-ons.Thanks,Joe

I have even stopped flying the Vatsim network, since I got the program, cause I can fly anywhere and at anytime, with RC4, which is not the case with Vatsim unless you don't mind being without ATC on entire flights. Here is the "hoop" you will have to jump though to get Radar Contact 4.You go to this site http://www.jdtllc.com/products.htm and click on the Gold colored link that says "Emertrix". You get out a credit card, fill out the form , and in a few days ( I got mine in 2 days) you will be having a ball flying in a fantastic ATC environment.
December 25, 200520 yr Author There is FSCOM (www.pointsoftware.de), which is supposed to be a hybrid between Radar Contact and VoxATC with speech recognition. I haven't tried it yet, so I cannot comment, if it is any good or not.Cheers.
December 25, 200520 yr Yeah, I know its a good product ;-) But I also know I won't get it in 2 days via the mail, and I happen to be on vacation this coming week... The other RC4 thread has plenty of debate on their decision not to implement a downloadable version. Personally I think it is ridiculous and would rather buy another product. I will read up on FS COM and see if it has good reviews.
December 26, 200520 yr After using Radar Contact for several years, it's a bit "rediculous" not to buy it, just because it's not available via download. Even though on a very limited Social Security Income, and buy very few addons, it's one that I can't do without. Personally, even though I have DSL, I'd much rather have a CD, especially when there is no additional charge for shipping and handling. If my system crashes, which has happened several times in the last 20 years of using the FS, I'd much rather reinstall a CD, than have to go through the hassle of trying to find old registrations, to download another copy. There is quite a bit of downloadable software Ive lost forever after a crash. In my opinion, some people will make up any excuse to complain... If it was available for download, many of those who express such opinions, would just make up another excuse not to get it.
December 26, 200520 yr There are almost no reviews to be found regarding FSCOM. But they have a demo that can be downloaded from their website. I had radar contact once, and while the functionality is awesomw I could not stand the slow robotic voices. Killed all the immersion fo me. I have downloaded te FSCOM demo and maybe over the next few days I will see how it performs.Alex

December 26, 200520 yr Yeah, but that is just me. As I said it is undoubtably a fantastic program. But the voices really sounded like my ole chess computer from the 70s. I know for many that is only a minor thing. But for me it was no go.Alex

In the mean time I checked out the web site for FS Com and it seems to be a Flight Planner, Auto Pilot, Weather Generator, etc..etc all within 178 Meg file size.... I doubt if it will be very useful, but I will be interested to read your report on it....
December 26, 200520 yr I've only had RC for a week now and can never see going back to the old FS ATC. It's not that the voices themselves are bad, it's the way the phrasing and words are linked together. JD has indicated that they will work on the issue. In the meantime I read a hint that worked well for me: In DirectX turn down the hardware acceleration a notch on the sound page. Worked for me as the timing of the speech seems to flow a bit better now. Now, I just have to figure out why that fellow with a British accent keeps getting hired at all the mid-America centers instead of more of those ladies with the great Southern accent. :D Mike

I had reduced the Direct X accel 1 notch awhile back for frame rate smoothness, and my RC4 sounds pretty good. Never thought about that until I read your post.

If it was available for download, many of those who express such opinions, would just make up another excuse not to get it.The man is not complaining. He's expressing a desire as a CONSUMER to purchase the product in the most convenient and readily available format which CAN be implemented. That's his choice and should be respected.
