December 28, 200520 yr It would be interesting to have someone that has tried both FS Com and RC4 discuss the advantages-disadvantages of each . People that are now getting RC4, including me, are raving about the product, and I haven't heard FS Com even mentioned anywhere, except in this thread. I find it almost impossible to believe that with the file size that FS COM is supposed to be according to the web site , that it can give you good ATC, chatter, flight planning, weather and all the other things that they say it does. If the description of the product on their web site is any indication, any documentation with the program is probably pretty poor.
December 28, 200520 yr Heh, excuse me but you are entirely inaccurate.I'm not complaining. I am looking for alternative products that _are_ available in a download format.
December 28, 200520 yr Commercial Member check back sometime in january, maybe i can find someplace to host 700mb, with gazillion byte bandwidth at a reasonable rate.jd JD Read my blog
December 28, 200520 yr I downloaded and bought Ultimate Terrain. It was 1.2 Gigabytes, and I didn't have a problem, it was a very smooth process. I also bought SSTSim, which was 285 Megabytes, also a smooth process. In any event, with this thread I was really looking more to find some ATC add-ons that I could buy and download, as opposed to continuing the RC specific stuff.I think I have a perfectly valid reason for looking for a downloadable add-on - as I stated, I happen to be on vacation this week and it would be nice to download something to play with. But as its already Wednesday I suppose this is a moot point now.
December 28, 200520 yr There is some ATC chatter included, but most can be downloaded from the main Fs sites like Avsim.That makes the program bigger.And controllers talk smooth... 5950x3d 5.4-5.7 GHz - Asus ROG 870 Crosshair Apex - GSkill Neo 2x 24 Gb 6000 mhz / cas 26 - MSI RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC - 1x SSD M2 6000 2TB - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 1Tb - Corsair 5400 case - Corsair 360 liquid cooling set - 3x 75’ TCL tv. 13600 6 cores @ 5.1 GHz / 8 cores @ 4.0 GHz (hypterthreading on) - Asus ROG Strix Gaming D - GSkill Trident 4x Gb 3200 MHz cas 15 - Asus TUF RTX 4080 16 Gb - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 2TB - 2x Sata 600 SSD 500 Mb - Corsair D4000 Airflow case - NXT Krajen Z63 AIO liquide cooling - FOV : 200 degrees My flightsim vids : https://www.youtube.com/user/fswidesim/videos?shelf_id=0&sort=dd&view=0
December 28, 200520 yr Hi Bob,I've never used FSCom so hesitate to comment but I know we gave up the 'adventure generation' route in RC two versions back because it was so limiting in terms of what could be achieved. That goes back 3 or 4 years so my memories are a bit hazy ;-)Essentially the adventure is generated right at the start and you are then stuck with what's been generated. The likes of RC and Voxatc run as programs throughout the flight responding to the changing circumstances. I seem to remember the ability to have atc respond to 'real world' weather as provided by the likes of active sky, the ability to request different runwaysapproaches, request a change in destination, request a pd on the descent etc were examples of the sort of things which the 'adventure' framework wouldn't allow or would severely limit. All the best,John

January 26, 200620 yr just a couple of questions about FSCOM, if somebody can answer it, please...1. does this programm supports ai traffic? I mean, speach i hear, is it just for fun made or it is airplanes, which is really included in my ai traffic?2. from which source are all SID/STARs are taken? Is it possible to update them? ...and AIRACs?3. i use ActiveSky for realweather, so how it implemented in this programm? I don't see on screen "user defined" option for weather
January 26, 200620 yr Maybe you hadn't noticed this program was just recently reviewed here at AVSIM... link: http://www.avsim.com/pages/0106/FSCOM/FSCOM.htmAnswered pretty much all of my questions. January 26, 200620 yr Radar Contact 4 is excellent. Not sure what you mean by not wanting to jump thru hoops. I recieved my CD within 5 days of ordering. I recieved my Key within 2 hours or less after making the request. Use it all the time now. Excellent program and I don't believe there are many choices out there. Craig
January 26, 200620 yr I use RC4 and think it's great. Received the product within 5 days and the registration key within an hour or two. It may even have been faster than that as I didn't bother to check on it for a while. Here is the best reason to use it: # Any planner that can save or export FS2000/FS2002/FS2004 plans, such as: * FS Navigator * NAV 3 * FS2000/FS2002/FS2004 * FlightSim Planner / FlightSim Commander * Super Flight Planner * Flight Manager * IFRPlan 2000 * FSBuild * Jeppesen FliteStar# RC version 4 has been tested with the following add-ons: * FSMeteo version 7 * ActiveSky version 4, 4.5, 5 (disable the item titled
January 27, 200620 yr Living on the other side of the planet in South East Australia, I avoid any purchase that can't be downloaded. Was confirmed in this belief by a post on the RC forum - a hopeful RC purchaser from my part of the world still hadn't got his RC cd after 35 days!! Not a good sign. But after receiving soothing tones from the RC people I have now placed an order. Convenient to do so now because I am away from home for two weeks so the wait isn't an immediate issue. Now if it isn't there when I get home I will not be a happy camper. Just hope it is all worth it and that the voices issue isn't as bad as it seems to be from the demos. I have waited nearly two years for this release so when the voices issue first surfaced I was quite dismayed. But if I mull over this purchase much longer I may as well not bother - with FSX coming you never know M$ may surprise us all and make RC4 obsoleteBruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." January 27, 200620 yr Commercial Member time will tell on both counts (whether it is there when you get home, and ms makes us obsolete).the voice issue is pretty much resolved with the 4.01 release than i'm about to make available.jd JD Read my blog
