Aircraft folder on second partition

Featured Replies

I have run out of hard disk space on my C: drive and have to move the Aircraft folder to a second partition (D:) on the harddrive leaving FS9 installed on C:.I've already managed to do that with the Addon Scenery folder with no problems but don't know where FS9 links the Aircraft folder to the programm.Any help is greatly appreciatedRoland

What Bob says. But you can move the default scenery folders. Just move them, then rename the scenery.cfg file entries to point to the neww direction.Allcott

Hi Roland,Windows XP (I forget if it's available on Home edition) allows you to mount partitions as directorys within another filesystem. Therefore it should be possible to mount another hard drive partition as the "Aircraft" directory in your FS directory. That would kind of achieve what you're looking for.Hope this helps,Ian

>What Bob says.>>But you can move the default scenery folders. Just move them,>then rename the scenery.cfg file entries to point to the neww>direction.>>>Allcott That is what I have done, however FS9 seems to ignore the location specifications for the "BASE" and "World" folders. I get an error if those folders aren't in the default location. Since I have four instances of FS9 on my machine each one has just those two folders in the local "Scenery" folder. All the other scenery and addon scenery folders are located on a seperate drive. Unfortunately this setup prevents me from making use of the new VOZ scenery since it relies on a purely default installation in order for it's file swapping utility to work :( Paul

Ian,That sounds promising and seems to be the way to go. Any idea how that can be achieved? I couldn't find any instructions under windows help.Roland

Hi RolandTry 'Junction Link Magic' (http://www.rekenwonder.com/linkmagic.htm). The program 'links' directorys like the 'ls' command in unix. So you can physically move a whole directory to another place, but logically it looks like before.Although this feature is build in in the NTFS, M$ decided to not support it. Maybe they were afraid of people not understanding it, who knows? One last remark: I did not use this program yet. It's just on my 'try out' list if I ever would like to do this kind of stuff. So if you give it try, please share your experience.Greg

I have FS on my C-disk, all add-on sceneries on disk E:.I also moved the panel- and sound-folders from C:/FS9/aircaft/XXX to E:/... . You might want to try this. It helps a little, I had a lot of huge sound- and panel-folders.Sound.cfg and panel.cfg should point to other disk. One of my sound.cfg:s looks like this:[fltsim]alias=E:fssounds737ng_cfmsoundand the panel.cfg:[fltsim]alias=E:fspanelsB737panel.ps733I don

Many thanks for assistance guys. I'll now try Junction Link Magic and let you know the outcome.Roland

Get yourself into the Computer Management console (I go through Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management) then under the Storage item (on the tree on the left) go to Disk Management. This will display all the logical disks on your machine. Right click on the one you want to use as your "Aircraft" folder and click on "Change Drive Letter and Paths". Click on "Add" then type your FS aircraft folder location into the box below "Mount in the following empty NTFS folder". Click OK and Bob's your fathers brother. Two caveats...1) You must be using NTFS2) You must rename your aircraft folder before you do this, then copy the contents of that folder to the newly created mounting.I don't remember if this is available in XP Home but give it a go.Hope this helps,Ian

Guys,By chance I've come across the perfect utility for anybody's disk/partition problems. It's called NTFS Link 2.1 and you can create junctions (soft as well as hard-links) on the fly using a right mouse click and drag and drop in windows explorer. I can tell you it works a treat!Have tried to attach the zip file but seemingly with 590 KB it's too big, so just do a search in google.Roland
