Standby Frequency Switch - setting a hotkey

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I'm looking for a way to set a hotkey for the standby frequency switch button. You can't set it in the PMDG CDU and the default action via FSX is not working.

It is so important to me, because i'm right handed and i use a joystick. So when im departing, i need to change the frequency from tower to center quite soon after take off. Right now i have to switch hands to have my right one free to use the mouse and push that little button. It's pretty annoying ;)

I appreciate any help :)

Greetings,

Tony

If you have a registered copy of FSUIPC you can pick the hex code for COM1 frequency change out of the SDK PMDG has included (hint it's 112D1) and bind that to a key on your joystick.

I don't have FSUIPC yet. But it seems it will be the next thing to buy. Thanks for the reply! :)

An alternative solution is MCE (Multi Crew Experience), which gives you voice control over most things. More expensive than FSUIPC but more useful.

Also it's well worth practising using your weaker hand. which is the cheapest solution of all. I mostly use my mouse with my right hand (despite being left handed).

In reality, when flying single pilot IFR you don't rush to change frequencies.  Your airspace is 'protected' so you have a couple of miles before departure or center starts wondering about you.  Agree, a button on the controller would be nice but I have more important events to assign to my buttons.
