July 13, 20178 yr I also just noticed i don't see wet runways or aprons when it's raining. Did they remove the wet effect in v4?? July 13, 20178 yr It's nice to see flight sim developers adding stuff of course, and I like pretty visuals as much as anyone, but really, developers could do with stepping back and thinking about what the point of their simulator actually is. All the sims based on the same look up table system which Flight Simulator and its ESP derivatives use, from the very first subLOGIC FS1 through to the latest version of LM P3D, including all points in between, have done little to nothing to actually advance the act of simulating flight on a PC beyond what was in the very first iteration. Most of what is different about them all, is merely the size of the content and the visuals, neither of which have anything whatsoever to do with how an aeroplane operates. Everything has driven by advances in computer hardware capabilities, to add eye candy, rather than a desire to make the aeroplanes fly in a more realistic way. Yes there have been some parameters added to those LUTs to add things such as helicopters in FS98, but nothing which has really changed the basic way the aeroplanes fly in the sim. It's actually hard to find an exception to this; when MS added ATC and AI way back in FS2002, that did actually move us on a bit, but it was still with the same flight modeling. So when Lockheed Martin or Dovetail Games announce that P3D or FSW has a new or considerably improved core simulation system which will be able to simulate a sideslip properly, or a spin, or a groundloop etc, I'll be more impressed than I ever will be to see them announcing they are working on a rainy windscreen effect or passenger animations, because it's about time they actually did something to improve their FLIGHT SIMULATORS instead of concentrating on pretty visuals. It was of course fantastic to have a flight sim on a PC when it first showed up in 1979, but that is 38 years ago, so it's not as if developers have not had any time to try and do something about this and really move us on a little bit. July 13, 20178 yr It is clear to me that LM leaves out the features that you mention in order to cultivate a community of 3rd party developers. They have never shown any interest in constantly updating the default aircraft as has been done by LR with XP11. Even with the windshield rain effect, LM is just providing the framework for developers to add that effect to their aircraft in a standardized fashion. To demonstrate that point, the default F35 is a stripped down version of Dino Cattaeno's aircraft. The original model is as realistic as flightsim aircraft get and if a P3d user likes the base version then it's easy to upgrade (and in this specific case, free).
