LM working on rain effects.

I hope that people don't think that once LM either provides some guidance to developers or possibly even modifies the SDK that every aircraft will magically exhibit windscreen rain effects. It's one thing for LM to add the effect to its default aircraft, but it's still going to be up to 3rd party developers to add the effect to their products.

Sounds like a lot of neat things will be coming from the developers in the near future.

On a related note I saw this on the same site..."In an open letter to the community, some of the industries biggest scenery developers including FlyTampa, FlightBeam Studios, FSDT & 29Palms announced that all their future products will be for P3D V4 only!" Sounds like past versions of P3d will not die a slow death like FSX.

I saw that. I also saw Mr. Orbx's response, which wasn't very charitable, calling them lazy and questioning their ability to code because they want to make add ons that will require 64 bit.

Totally unnecessary shot by him IMO.

Indeed. Didn't go unnoticed by FlyTampa either, as their new website logo looks like this;

Where is this drama all taking place? I'd like to feel amused this morning.

Edit: Found it. *rolls eyes*

I wish that DTG and L-M would take a page from a little company named SCS who use shaders to implement their rain-on-windshield effects, as well as wiper interaction with said rain.

The wipers work as in real life because they don't magically cause rain to disappear where the blades make their swipes, but rather minimize it and new rain immediately begins wetting the glass again after the blade passes...

SCS does  a lot of things very well.  The environment looks very real a lot of the time. quite enjoyable.

I only have a few of their airports but I just moved a few more to the front of my wishlist/purchase queue.  That's awesome on so many levels.

That is an awesome logo. I love it. I'd particularly love to reuse that "V.4 FTW" phrase elsewhere...

They do Euro Truck Simulator And American Truck Simulator. What they don't do unfortunately is to have clickable buttons etc. Even OMSI does that. OMSI rain is also acceptable. Why it was ever taken out of FSX is a mystery. Perhaps LM should make a 64bit version of FS9!

WoW! It's a shame that Orbx does such a good job with scenery add ons. That attitude is pretty uncalled for!

I must be thinking of another SCS. I remember their Russian aircraft for FSX, only because, the way that they did the rain effect caused the windshield to turn black with DX10. Someone eventually came up with a patch, but as I recall, the effect was done the same way as RealAir's, with a sequence of 16 texture files. Maybe some of their other aircraft used a shader approach.

Saw he mentioned there was a prototype rain effect on the default Mooney, so I checked it out and did a recording if anyone else was interested

Thankfully that's just a prototype.

I don't see this rain effect on my Mooney Bravo. Why?

Edit: Never mind, it shows but only in the G1000 version.

That's exactly how the Realair Turbine Duke rain effects behave.
