Dynamic lights on AI

Featured Replies

I just noticed a few minutes ago using UT AI traffic live when I was on the line up for take off that my cockpit got really bright. I couldn't understand why and then I realized that it seems AI traffic models are also using dynamic lighting?

Why would P3D do that? It seems to me that in it's own is a huge chunk of resources that are getting consumed unnecessarily. Has anyone else seen that?

I experienced it first time at MDW last night. It was cool.

DL is cool. I arrived at 29 Palms at dusk and while parked I noticed the airport beacon rotating and it was illuminating my aircraft as well as the AI aircrafts. Something totally new and cool.

Unnecessary to you. Necessary to others. I believe you can disable them if you don't like it. If not, ask LM to make it optional.

My point is not that it looks cool or not. Of course it does. But it seems it doesn't respect cockpit walls as the light was coming from behind and was illuminating my cockpit like a flashlight.

The other part is, doesn't dynamic lighting drastically decrease performance? So with idk 60 aircraft taxing around won't that create a performance issue? That's my question......

I agree it would probably be a good idea for LM to make dynamic lights on non-player aircraft optional, for those who need every last frame. But at least on my system with a 980 Ti, it doesn't hurt my frames too bad at all with 4x MSAA @ 1440p, and the improvement is WELL worth it. Seeing various aircraft taxi around lighting up the ground like they should is extremely cool and ups the immersion factor a ton.

By the way, the reason the light passes through your cockpit wall is because the dynamic lights are non shadow casting. The effect would be cool, but the cost to framerate would be *enormous.* It's the same reason XP11's lighting works the same way.

I just got a 1080TI and I cant say my performance is being affected negatively but with my previous GTX970 i can see how many need every single frame they can get.

Samos? I was tooling around there recently (it's what tools do) and the beacon there did the same thing. It was genuinely cool. About the only time I enjoyed DL... when it's not murdering my frames.
