Prepar3D v3 Crashing. Windows Update KB4038788 (Updated Information)

Recommended Posts

It appears so far to be just an issue with V3.

I have been having the same experience with V3 and the latest update. Annoying that unless you disable windows update before uninstalling the update, it will commence updating as soon as you restart for the install. Still no closer to what it is though!

My Prepar3D v3.4 is suddenly crashing to desktop for no apparent reason, I uninstalled the latest W10 update hoping this was the problem, but, not so.

I have no software/hardware changes, my nvidia drivers are up to date

Here is my error log, hoping that someone can pick why - "a fatal error occurred" line appears about 1/3 the way down, but gives no reason

Uninstalling (and blocking) the windows update appears to be the fix.

I just realized I'm having the same issue after KB4038788 was installed last night. What's the easiest way getting rid of this update and make sure it won't be reapplied?

I'm running Win 10 Pro so hopefully that means I have a bit more control over what happens in regards of updates.

I guess you can completely disable Windows updates but that doesn't seem like a very good option to me since I also use my computer for other stuff and keep it constantly connected to Internet. The best thing would of course be if you could disable/block only this specific update from being downloaded/installed.

Will do some investigating on this subject myself but figured I would ask in here as well with lots of other people having the same problem.

Here's the solution how to accomplish what I was asking for, hiding/blocking a specific update in this case KB4038788.

I can now confirm uninstalling, hiding and thus blocking the update above fixed the issue in my case as well. I'm on P3Dv3.2.3.

I wonder if it's possible to report things like this to MS because I doubt LM will invest any time or effort into this if it's only P3Dv3.x being affected while P3Dv4 doesn't have any issues with this MS fix.

Numerous reports on Facebook P3D group with same problem. Uninstall the update, and everything returns to normal.

Thanks, uninstalled and hid/blocked the update too. All working fine now - P3Dv3.4

I would see if the suggestion at the following link helps as many are having sudden crashes with P3Dv3 -

For whatever reason, now I cannot save a flight scenario without the error "Scenario Save Failed!"

Edit: Looks like bit defender file secure may have been blocking it. I will check back with an answer.

I have been using P3D v3.1 on Windows 10 for over a year with a  number aircraft and scenery addons and have had no problems until today when it has suddenly stopped working.

I get an error message just at the point of reaching 100% loading  ie :- A problem caused the programme

to stop working correctly".  This happens intermittently but occasionally it does load.  Previous posts on the P3D forum seem to suggest that it might be a Windows 10 update problem

Has anybody experienced this issue?, . comments appreciated.

Mike

There have been several reports of P3D versions crashing due to latest windows 10 updates.

KB4038788 & KB4038806 seem to be problematical for *SOME* not all users.

You could try reversing the update.

I have experienced this issue and I found it caused by my Carenado Mirage.  If I load it in the default flight, I get the error.  So I have found if I use the A36 instead, then switch to the Mirage, I am fine.  I am using version 4.0.  This harkens back to the same issue with FSX where the default flight had to be started with one of the default aircraft like the 172.

Hope this is of some help for you.

John
