September 14, 20178 yr The Oregon Coast This week we're going for a complete change of pace after last week's fast jet shenanigans. We'll start at Troutdale (KTTD), a small but quite busy GA airport near KPDX Portland where we finished last week, and make our way at a leisurely pace towards the coast, although there will be a stop at Vernonia (05S) and maybe a little challenge on the way. First stop at the coast will be Astoria, at the mouth of the Columbia River, then we head south hitting all the coastal airfields including Siletz Bay (S45), as far as Newport (KONP). Dinner reservation is at Mo's Seafood and Chowder. Additional: the City of Portland needs the undersides of all the bridges in downtown Portland inspecting. I told them we'd do it. Fly from Troutdale to RossI waypoint (Ross Island) and make your way north up the river. There are 8 bridges to check. Flight plan Can be downloaded here. Aircraft It's not a long route so this would be a good one for Cherokees or C172s. We only need to do about 100kts to make it comfortably. As always, fly what you like though. September 15, 20178 yr A fun little addition places the iconic Astoria Column on Coxcomb Hill some 600 feet above the city of Astoria, Oregon. This FSX scenery addon, by Robert Lacy, works perfectly in P3Dv4. You cannot fly under it, but you can buzz the column so that you can see the detailed hand-painted frieze that winds its way around the column to celebrate the discovery and settlement of the northwest. Obviously not necessary, but a delightful little something extra. Available at AVSIM here. --Mike MacKuen
September 15, 20178 yr I'm looking forward to Vernonia's 6' high weeds! Perhaps our landing fees will go some way to buying themselves a weed whacker. The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA

Just landed at Vernonia for the first time, I see what you mean! But we're bringing our own weed whackers, what do you think that spinning thing attached to the nose of your aircraft is for?
