November 25, 20178 yr Disabled ObjectFlow in the dll.xml for FSX, enabled KORS and KFHR but sim crashes when going to the menu so the problem does not appear to be ObjectFlow. November 25, 20178 yr Well after flying around in default scenery and aircraft for over an hour or so I did not get one “error creating child window”. Now the bad news, on several occasions when accessing the menus received “an unsupported operation was attempted”. What is interesting sometimes a reboot and other times by clinking “OK” and wait a few seconds FSX-SE would continue with no crash. Accessing menus appeared to be more accessible and make changes with no problem. Loaded several pay ware scenery and flew some pay ware aircraft and the same results as with defaults. Conclusion is some improvement but not sure by the time I enable the remaining scenery which is over 100, crashes Wii occur. Dane, you mentioned you are having no problems since you are now using 1607. I can't remembered if you were able to roll back to that version. I am still hoping that the Win update is causing most of this problem and will be fixed by MSFT. November 25, 20178 yr I just flew a flight from FSDT KORD to KSTL in the PMDG 738, real weather, and ProATC-X. No crash. Tried everything I could to make it crash but it wouldn't. For me the fix was disabling KFHR and KORS. I suspect you have other Orbx scenery that has Objects in them like people? KFHR and KORS were the only scenery I had with that. November 25, 20178 yr That is good news. I have several Orbx scenery with people flow. All Orbx scenery disabled but not people flow. Will give FSDT KORD to KSTl a try and see what happens in the morning. Regards, No Carl you are not able to roll back to 1607 as after ten days of the new version update Windows makes it so you cannot go back. If you want detailed info on what I did let me know and I will gladly lay it out for you (and others) if it helps Regards, Dane - Windows 11 Home - CPU Intel Core i7-10700KF @3.8GHz - EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 GPU - 1TB SSD DRIVE - RAM 32GB - MSFS-2020
November 25, 20178 yr I just completed a flight in the PMDG 737 from ENTO to EKCH. The EKCH is Copenhagen ( payware ). I was able to complete the flight with no interruptions. During the flight, I used the Active Sky in the drop-down menu with no problems. At the end of the flight I went to the ' instant replay ' and the ' settings ' and both times got the ' “an unsupported operation was attempted ' message. I didn't get the ' The error creating child window message '.There are no problems that I can see in PREPARED v4.

Dane I did not install 1706 until 11/22/17. They kept asking me to install but I kept delaying. I don't remember when they first told me it was ready. If it the actual date it was installed I may still have a chance?? It seems that you then should be able to roll back to 1703 from your present 1709. Here is a link from Microsoft showing how to do that, make sure you check it out and understand it before proceeding - http://www.thewindowsclub.com/rollback-uninstall-windows-10-creators-update Regards, Dane - Windows 11 Home - CPU Intel Core i7-10700KF @3.8GHz - EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 GPU - 1TB SSD DRIVE - RAM 32GB - MSFS-2020
November 25, 20178 yr Thanks Dane for the info. A decision will have to be made soon. I am still messing with FSX and having some success. At least I can now fly with plane and scenery pay ware with a flight plan. However FSX is not reliable. I have had several complete flights with no "child window" messages. Using the Menu is still a challenge. I can access the airplane only once if I try the second time I will receive “an unsupported operation". November 26, 20178 yr I haven't any of the above issues at the moment. I've just checked and the last update was 1703 in July. Is the suspect update (1709) only available in the USA ? (I'm in the UK). I will certainly watch my machine like a hawk now and not accept a W10 update until its resolved.

Dane and Jim I think I have some good news. I rolled back to 1703, and after several tests have not occurred any problems . Gave the menu a work out and no dreaded messages. The one problem after a windows update check it indicated "for 1709 to be installed will need to restart". I do not want 1709 to be activated or whatever. How do I get around this because when I shut down and start up it may install 1709. November 26, 20178 yr Thanks Jim, it appears you cannot stop the update or even delay if you have the home edition of Win. I can only chose "how updates are delivered". This could be a real problem. From the site you provided. "What if you do not have Windows 10 Pro, Education or Enterprise?" "If you have the consumer Home version of Windows 10, which is aimed at home users, you cannot defer upgrades. Therefore, want it or not, the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update will get installed as soon as it is available for your PC, starting October 17th, 2017." It even appears that 'professional version" would be allowed up to 4 months delay. If interpreted correctly I may have to remain in "sleep mode"? Unreal!! If 1709 gets by you, you may not have an issue as it seems only some systems are affected. However if you do have issues as have been reported here, you can always roll back to 1703 as long as you do it with the allotted ten day period.
