Dynamic lights off with pmdg products on P3D 4.1

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

after a few monthes with p3d 4.1 I've decided to switch off the dinamic lights in the p3d menu.

I'm very happy with this as I can fly with SSAA at 4x without any performance issue and with my gpu not going up to 100% but at a stedy 50%.

The problem is that after this I have no light that illuminates the ground... I mean: the cockpit is ok but the landing, taxi and rwy turn lights do not illuminate the terrain... I'm flying the 777

Short answer: PMDG lights require DL to be ticked in P3D v4 otherwise no lights

Exactly,  its a trade off - MSAA does work very well.

MSAA with DL is the answer to prevent GPU usage 100%  but my eyes bleed at the flickering ORBX night lights on anything less than 4 x SSAA which is of course not achievable with DL turned ON, certainly not with my 1070 anyway.

I seem to have to have mitigated the problem to a satisfying extent by turning down the texture resolution to 1024. I can now fly with dynamic lights and DL on with 4xSSAA in the NGX without much effect on smoothness.

Edit: I also have a 1070, btw

Hmm haven't thought about lowering the rex real.

Agree. Even with my video card there is not difference. I use 4xSSAA at night and it is not fun. It looks worse with MSAA. Looks to me flying at night is no longer a joy.

Yes, I have all textures at max 1024. Rex textures at 256 for water and 512 for clouds. It makes a difference and I can't see any vast improvement in quality using high def textures anyway.

And GPU load doesn't max out with all the NGX lights on at a payware field which utilises DL as well?

Don't know, never checked. It's smooth, some texture loading lag at max autogen density and draw distance, some occasional minor stutters but nothing too bothersome
