New Syndrome - Simulator Fright

Featured Replies

I have a virginal installation of P3D v4.1 and I can't bring myself to add all of my sceneries and add-ons for fear of breaking a sensational sim. Does anyone else harbour that fear? I should mention I have installed 3 PMDG aircraft with equally great results. I have a shipload of sceneries, all the ORBX LC's and heaps more utilities and add-ons. I'm twiggered and I'm fwightened. I need a therapy dog. A safe space would be nice.

I don't harbour this exact same fear but I do like to keep my sim as clean as possible. So I would sort of fear to install something just to give it a try or something like that. I only like to install things of which I am certain I will be using them. This sometimes can be a problem with a totally new addon. But I don't fear installing the addons I love to use, also because I know they won't break anything: they only make things better! This does mean though that I usually have no more than two addon planes installed and only the scenery I actually fly over. Right now I only have the Majestic Q400 installed and FTX Norway (plus Airports of Norway) so no other planes and scenery at all! (Of course that isn't all, I also have ChasePlane, AS, GSX, ProATC, UTL, PFPX...)

Yes, I could do that but have you ever broken a sim?  I've been wading through MSFS since FS9. I hate to even think of the amount of hours I've spent porking around with performance problems in flight sims since then. At the moment P3D is a visually pleasing flight simulator but it's no ORBX, scenery wise. I spent quite a bit of money making FSX  look more realistic. I guess the thing that is most daunting is wading through all of them to ascertain they're compatible with P3D v4.1. Thanks for your post.

Never had a brokeb Sim. Not with Fs2000 , nor Fs2002 , nor Fs2004 , nor FSX and nor P3D. Never had Windows 10 issues .

I have 100+ addons and no issues with that too.

I enjoy Fs to the fullest.

So can you...

My system is an ageing but very capable 6 core platform combined with a gtx 1080. I can generally turn some impressive frames, so performance is not an issue, unless you're flying into ORBX YBBN in FSX. You have some add-ons I don't have but intend to purchase, Chase Plane to name one. Can you imagine the hours I will spend in the next few weeks, adding them to v4.1? Where's that therapy dog?

Jon....many of us have the same fears. You are not alone. A few months ago I would not even leave my bedroom. I heard about a woman known as "The Chicken Lady" over in New Orleans who had the power to free us from our Flight Sim Fears. With some prodding from my wife and friends I decided to give her a try. Now Jon, I wont say it was a pretty thing that happened there in New Orleans that night, but after about 3 hours of noise, chanting, feathers everywhere and 4 dead chickens...praise GSALDEN (your god) I was cured!! I can now load anything I see into Prepar3d with no fear. It's like a whole new life. 2018 is going to be a great year!!

So I shouldn't be so twiggered? Do I get a participation medal?

Several weeks ago when I first installed P3Dv4, I had this same concern. So I went slowly, only installed one addon at a time, then loaded P3D to make sure everything was working. So far no issues. I have installed only A2A and PMDG aircraft, Orbx and UK2000 scenery. I would get on with it if I were you. As great as P3Dv4 is for performance and general scenery effects, the default ground scenery in my opinion is mediocre. P3Dv4 only comes to its full potential when Orbx sceneries are installed (in my opinion).

My system specs: Intel [email protected] - 5.2 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080, 32GB  DDR4  RAMNoctua NH-D15 CPU Cooler,1TB Seagate SSD, 4TB Seagate HD, Windows 10, Asus 32 inch monitor, Saitek Yoke, Throttle Quadrant, Rudder Pedals and Trim Wheel     Sims: MSFS2020      Preferred Aircraft  Black Square Bonanza, and Baron, A2A Comanche, PMDG DC-6, Red Wing L1049
