May 9, 200620 yr After purchasing a lot of payware scenery over the years, there is one thing that I would love to see:Scenery for KJFK, KLGA, KEWR and Manhattan that is meant to work together as one package and reduce the frame rates for the entire area.Because I always fly with max ai, this area of the country is basically off limits to me. In addition, I am not even sure that the ai is the biggest problem in the area. I think it is a variety of issues that bring fs down to a slide show including the older scenery for those airports that I have installed.Another area that would be great for this type of approach would be the DC area.I know that I would pay $100+ for a all-inclusive NY area that was made in the spirit of the Flight Scenery products. I also know that a product will probably never exist for FS9 but I just wanted to voice my opinion. With the rise in payware prices, I hope complete packages like this will become available for FS10. Even though these types of packages would be very expensive, I think we would pay less in the long run and I believe we would be getting better produts. In addition, bigger packages would be easier to market in boxed products on the store shelves. May 9, 200620 yr Check out this thread for some of the other causes of slow framerates in the NY/NJ area:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchTraffic is a drain, but there are other problems in the area on top of that. I fly with zero AI, and I still get slower performance in the NY/NJ area with zero scenery addons there. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
May 9, 200620 yr >>Another area that would be great for this type of approach would be the DC area.Jeff,If you look at Flight Scenery website, you'll notice that Washington DC is on the list of future products, so just maybe you'll get the area as you want it.Bruce
May 10, 200620 yr There is a great Aerosoft Manhatten. Absolutely gorgeous. (It takes little fps hit). Then you have Shea's KLGA airport scenary. Then you have a Newark scenary (I don't have this..so can't tell anything about it). Then you have the Megascenary NY. Its probably the worst megascenary product IMO. comapared to their awesome PNW, N.Cal, So Cal and their Hawaii. You can do without it. Just use Ground environement instead. Then add flight scenaries' Rhode Island and the Fly tampa's freeware Boston.and you have a real flying world right there. Replace the default runway textures with some freeware from the library here and you have a decent aiport for JFK too.:)Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
May 10, 200620 yr Oh, I'm running Simflyers KEWR, KJFK and Shez's LGA. GE, Ultimate Traffic, Ultimate Terrain, AS6...The mention of Mega Scenery poses a question. Why doesn't MegaScenery include high quality airports with its scenery? Although they look great, I don't really think they qualify as "mega" if they don't have airport scenery. After all, this is a flightsim. I know some of the FlyTampa stuff is optimized for Mega scenery but they are not released in a complete package. Why not? There should have been collaboration to make it optimized.IMO, A true mega scenery for NY would be a complete re-do of the entire area with detailed scenery for every major airport. Many times freeware developers say, "I'm not going to make what you want, I am going to make what I want. It is a hobby and I do this for fun." That is all well and good. I am saying to payware developers, "Make me entire reproductions of major metropolitan areas that are COMPLETE and fps friendly and I will pay big bucks for them." I know they can do it. My post is a challenge to developers. Do it and you will profit.BTW, the problems described for the NY are in that thread would exist for every major metro area (if you are talking about the auto gen bug). I think it is a combination lots of ai, lots of auto gen and lots of airports that are not frame rate friendly. That's it. If a developer took on the challenge of re-doing the area with fps friendly technology, maybe we can fly NYC again. As to the idea of lowering ai, that is not an option for me. It is one of my favorite parts of fs.I am sure the Flight Scenery DC will be great but I don't know if they will include Dulles and National. Technically, they should also include BWI and all of the smaller airports in between. Anything less would be incomplete IMHO. Don't get me wrong, I am sure I will buy it but it is the difference between me paying $35 and $100.
