Bad Graphics with 7700K & GTX1080

Nothing wrong with the graphics. These recommendations about locking fps to 20 have to stop. Utter nonsense, and from a moderator at that.

Really love this kind of quotes/affirmations based on nothing, not that im nobodys lawyer...

FYI that recommendation is more than proven that solves texture blurrys, slow loading autogen in some systems (mine included) not to mention performance issues, just read before making those kind of statements not just based in your personal experience.

I've long been a moderator in the flight sim community (here and elsewhere) and I've long performed technical support both for developer products and for FSX and P3D.  I can say without reservation that being a moderator is a tough and thankless job, but it has very little or nothing to do with technical knowledge or support.  As such, it's might not be a good idea to assume that someone being a moderator infers any special technical level of knowledge  -  they might indeed possess one in the subject matter, but being a moderator in of itself doesn't make it so.

Moderators in such a broad community such as ours are often selected because they have enough knowledge to follow a topic, but their primary responsibility is to keep the community running smoothly and step in where/when needed. This requires a particular type of individual with particular skills and experience.

That said, Vic has demonstrated a terrific level of knowledge in several areas. Generally speaking I wouldn't agree with his advice here (especially given the hardware involved) unless he meant it as means to gather additional information or a troubleshooting method. However I have yet to provide technical support/work on an i7-7700K and maybe there is something afoot with that processor capability wise (like additional reserve overhead due to the processing architecture and power) that I don't know about. Given that I've not worked on with that processor yet, I might question but certainly wouldn't condemn his advice - and I'm saying that as a former computer hardware engineer.  In other words, if I'm not about to condemn his advice...

We are often far too quick to condemn people in our community, and while I lean to the technical / acurracy side of things, I try never to condemn anyone or their ideas.

In my view, this topic has run it's course.

Best wishes.

You need to ask the people posting the videos what add-on's they are using, for example: ORBX, PTA, Reshade, ASCA, Eventex, chaseplane, EZDOK, which scenary they were using, etc.

This would give you the opportunity to really compare to your current system to the video, if you don't have the same add-on's used on the video it would be very hard to match the video looks.

Another thing you need to be aware of is that some of these videos have been edited outside of the simulator to make them look good, a typical example are a couple that shows wing views with windows and effects that are not available for P3D or FSX for such airplanes.

So always ask the video content publisher before start thinking there is a problem with your simulator display settings.

CPU - Intel i7 7700K 4.20GHz CAN YOU OVERCLOCK TO AT LEAST 4.6?

GPU - Asus Strix Rog GTX1080 8 GB HAS THIS BEEN OVERCLOCKED? I HAVE A TITAN PASCAL (1ST VERSION) AND OVERCLOCKING WAS EASY AND IMPROVED PERFORMANCE GREATLY

Mainboard - Asus Strix Z270F

Ram - BALLISTIX Ballistix Sport LT 16GB Kit DDR4 4GBx4 2400 DIMM CAN YOU GET NEW ONES THAT ARE 3400 INSTEAD OF 2400 AND 2X8?  FOR ME, THE HIGHER SPEED ALSO HELPED.

SSD - Samsung 850PRO 512GB PERFECTLY FINE.

HDD - WD Black 2 TB WHAT'S ON THIS?  IF IT'S SCENERY, THEN YOU'D DO BETTER WITH A NEW SSD, WHICH WOULD IMPROVE LOAD TIMES.

HOW MANY SCREENS ARE YOU RUNNING, AND WHAT'S THE RESOLUTION?  GOING FROM THREE SCREENS TO ONE HELPS, AS WOULD 1080P MONITOR(S) INSTEAD OF 4 K.  YOUR SPECS AS IS SHOULD RUN AT LEAST ONE FOUR K SCREEN VERY WELL.

Hi flyeer-my two cents above in bold caps.  These changes helped my P3Dv4.1 performance more than fiddling with settings.  Just suggestions if you've got the time, knowhow and dollars.  Good luck, Jay.

ok , if we can keep this on track to assist the OP rather than criticizing anyone's suggestions I'll let it go.

That said I feel I should cover one point -

As has been said, just being a Moderator brings no special technical status or ability short of what the mod has to start with.

In my case, at 81 years old I have spent half my life in the computer industry in many different capacities. I have been building systems, repairing systems, programming on a system and program level etc etc etc. I make my comments based upon the knowledge gleaned in those years and will continue to happily do so.

BUT - I make them as suggestions - NOT commands - as we all do. If the suggestion works for you - great - if not - try someone elses. Each system is different and not all will react the same.

As to the OP -  my response was this -

Start by locking your FPS to 20 and turn VSync off. Delete your shader folder and see how that affects your sim.

That's a basic starting point - nothing else - personally I thought the screenshots looked just fine.

So let's get back to trying to help the OP.

Also, what settings do you have? P3D settings and system resolution settings.

His last four linked images are his settings.

I would definitely suggest increasing the Terrain texture resolution.

v4 is a far better looking sim. It will look even better if you use Orbx HD trees and not them fps eaters (speed trees)

Enjoy v4 its a huge step up from v3.

Why the heck are you still running P3D v3??

I am still using P3D v3. The main reasons for this are as follows....

1. I only generally fly around the UK and Ireland, and disabling those addons that I do not need for each flight is effectively preventing OOMs. Of course, this does involve disabling one or two addons for certain flights that I would prefer to remain active, but it isn't too much of a problem.

2.Compatibility of AI plane models and textures. Whilst a lot of the civilian AI plane models now have P3D v4 conversions, I suspect that there are a few that still need to be updated. In addition (and more significantly), most of the military AI models that I use are not yet P3D v4 compatible.

3. Aerosoft Dublin is an important airport for me, and a P3D v4 compatible version is not even on the horizon.

4. I have seen reports of various niggles and issues with P3D v4 that don't exactly inspire me with confidence.

In short, until I need to upgrade to P3D v4, I will stick with a version that I know works fine on my PC, and is compatible with ALL of my existing addons.
