Here is a program that Microsoft has developed that determines if your PC is ready for the new OS - Microsoft Vista:You can download it here:http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=65926&clcid=0x409Please note that this is a beta product.

Thanks for the link! My system is Vista ready.JimYoung

Please note that this is a beta product. That's for sure! How can it say on one screen that your system is compatible with the core Vista system, then on the next screen say there is no drivers available for your systems I/O controller chip (As well as other devices!). Of which my system is only a year old with a 3.8 ghz P4 with a Intel 915G motherboard!!

Thanks

According to the BBC, Vista needs 15GB of free HD space!! :-lol. XP requires 1.5 ..... :-xxrotflmaohttp://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4996998.stm#tablehttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v615/Dar...0/ph34rblag.gif--------------------------------------------------------------------MD83's Dictionary:Dirge: Slow and mournful music e.g. COLDPLAY's musicMaudlin: Effusively or Insincerely emotional e.g. COLDPLAY's musicWhiney: To make a high-pitched, protracted sound, as in pain, fear, supplication, or complaint e.g. COLDPLAY's musicDreary: Boring; dull i.e. COLDPLAY's music

Currenlty unavailable - it saysSat 20 May 0730 Australian Eastern Time.......Does that mean - they arent ready for Vista ;)Scott

Well, originally there were 9!!

The "Upgrade Advisor" is back up. My system is mostly "Vista" ready. Only thing that worries me is that it says "Windows Vista drivers may not exist for the devices listed below. You may experience some loss of functionality with these devices after installing Windows Vista. If so, you should contact the device manufacturer to see if they have a more recent device driver."The item it tagged:Reality XP -- Avionics Bus -- Reality XP Contact the manufacturer Not sure what that means for my Garmin 530.

I want one more version for FSX version... Stripped down to bear necessities.:)

It probably just doesn't know what to make of the bus. That said, the Garmin 16bit windows trainer software will not run in Vista, 16bit support is being removed, so unless Garmin comes up with a different trainer, it may be a no-go.I am certainly in no hurry to move to a brand new MS windows, wait until the second Fix Pack! FSX will be a 32 bit program, so no pressing need there, and I don't see a stable DirectX 10 for some time.* Orest

Orest:I think for the first time, I will join you on this one. Before, I have got on the pre-order waiting list for each version if one was available. The number of drivers in question for compatibility is a big yellow flag to me (If not red flag). Certainly most providers will be upgrading drivers for Vista service, but HOW LONG will we have to wait, and this is only an assumption? Ironically my ancient TI Microlaser printer drivers are included with Vista, but my few month old newer Konica Minolta Color laser printer drivers are in question. Add scanners, CH Manager, card readers and quite a few others to this and things start gettin prohibitive.I see even the fasttrack software provided with the P4C800 Deluxe Motherboard for Raid HD configuration is in question, and this should be as common as sin. I sure would hate to have to buy and install a new motherboard just to be able to retain my configuration. This one sounds like a good one for a wait and see attitude to see when what developes.Happy flying:RTH

I think we are worrying much too early on the hardware drivers. The O/S is many months from delivery so manufacturers have not released drivers as there is no need to do so. How many of you only use XP approved drivers today? Probably only a few have the "certification" but they work just fine. Don't panic and wait for more information.

I wouldn't sweat, we'll have had FSX a good couple of months before we even see the likes of Vista I reckon. By then Reality and Garmin will have thought of something, and there is going to be a backwards compatibility mode in Vista as there was with XP, exepct according to the documentation I have it looks more powerful. It MAY actually work this time. That said there is no DOS mode as such in XP yet Demolition Derby 1 works perfectly well on my system.

My system is over two years old, including the graphics card. I was kind of surprised that the advisor found my system ready and pointed me to the "ultimate" version .... $ cha ching $ . Wonder how much that's going to cost me? AT
