I give up

Featured Replies

I have had a post removed, and 2 locked. It seems someone here has a serious problem with censorship and since I detest this sort of thing, you folks enjoy this little dictatorship, I'm gone.

Maybe if you stopped posting in an advertising way about FSGS..Just a thought.

>Maybe if you stopped posting in an advertising way about>FSGS..>>Just a thought. My point exactly. I see many posts here discussing the pros and cons of many other products and services yet those are allowed. As I said, someones personal issues are dictating content here and since it's their forum, they certainly can. However, when a public service is used for a personal agenda, then there is a serious problem. Two points you might not be aware of:There is a review on the very service I posted about done by an AVSIM reviewer here and the last thread that got locked I was in the middle of a conversation with a developer of another product that I had mentioned, and had nothing to do with the original subject.

After having the first deleted and the second one locked it didn't make much sense to try a third time. Maybe a lesson learned but no reason to leave.Doug

Maybe a lesson>learned but no reason to leave.>>DougI will bet you a steak dinner that if I had replaced FSGS with ANY other product or service name, and left the rest of any post exactly the same, there would not have been a problem.I just checked the Avsim site and found the list of employees. Now that I see Mr Allensworth titles, it is clear that this is his playground and he certainly can do what he wants. There are plenty of other forums available to find any information I need, so there is no need to continue here where its obvious that predudice prevails. The people that post here are great, the managment, thats a whole different thing.

maybe you should have learned your lesson the first time, or the second at the latest.

>maybe you should have learned your lesson the first time, or>the second at the latest.>Learned my leason? I'm 57, a professional in 3 careers, and live in the USA. I learned my lessons a few years back and one of em was to hit any form of censorship head on. Btw, I happen to think Flight 1 is a top shelve company with outstanding service, I hope you are not an official representitive with that attitude.

"I learned my lessons a few years back and one of em was to hit any form of censorship head on."What you may have missed in that life lesson is the fact that ALL forum managers retain the right to select what content and type of user they allow in THEIR forum.:-)

You must be. This thread needs to be locked as well;)You are right, replace FSGS with anything else and the thread stays. In Tom's defense though, the very mention of FSGS produces very heated threads with accusations of "snake oil"... I think he is locking them for a combination of reasons - not just because you are talking positively about FSGS. The mention of any other entity, aside from Airane or FSplanet, rarely produces threads that spiral out of control. In essence, he is not censoring the threads to impose censorship, he is locking them to be proactive.

They are tasked with following the guidelines the owner sets. Since Tom seems to be the forum owner as well as a manager, he certainly has that right. In the forum I manage, we never, and I mean never, let our personal feelings dictate our professional actions, which is what is happening here. And we always give the user a reason, a very specific reason, why a post was removed or a thread locked. If that had been done, then this would have already ended. It wasn't and 'it was pulled because it appeared to be advertizing and controversial' is pure garbage.I posted a link to a thread in THIS forum about the very same service. Almost every single post in that thread says the exact same thing I posted and it's still here, see for yourself:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchI would love to hear the arguement for allowing those and not mine.

Yes, you should give up.In one of the locked threads, Tom clearly stated why threads with that subject are locked.Of course it's your right to disagree with Tom's reasoning (which you already made very clear), so what's the point in debating that in yet another thread ???Unless YOU have some hidden agenda of course ..Rob

"Threads with that subject' are not locked, only the ones I started.I have an agenda allright, but it sure isnt hidden. If you think it is I would suggest a class in Comprehensive Reading 101.

I think you're selling the management here, especially Tom, a little short. I've been around the flightsim game and the various forums since Day-1 and I can honestly say that there is no other site that even comes close to AVSIM as far as the management goes - and yes, I'm familiar with them all. Over the years Tom and I have had a couple of sharp words but they were, hopefully, honest disagreements. How well I remember his response to one of my posts about the proposed FS98 boycott - I still cringe when I think about that one. But the thing of it is, Tom's an honest guy who owns a very popular site that's frequented by a bunch of folks who, at times, are a bit hard to control. So, he does what he feels is necessary to keep a little peace and civility around here. And, believe me, it's necessary. You may not agree with everything The Management here does and that's fine. But you do have try and understand that there are very good reasons why things are done as they are. So, The choice is yours. But if you do choose to leave here and go elsewhere it's going to make your enjoyment of the hobby a lot less than it could be.DougOn second thought, having read the rest of the thread, it may, indeed, be best to just move on. It sounds like you have a vendetta going that will be tough to deal with short of an outright ban.

"Please show me the controvery. I have searched the Avsim forums as well as others and I have yet to find it."That's because a number of the more heated threads have been deleted. Just because you don't see the controversy doesn't mean it wasn't there and/or isn't festering. There a number of vendors on the mod's radar here, not just FSGS, that almost guarantee a lock or a thread deletion. You are not being singled out, nor is the subject matter you're posting. I'm not going to launch a laundry list of vendors that trigger the mod's attention, but they are there. Some of the vendors are very good ones, and produce solid products and very content customers. OTH, their fans tend to be overzealous when someone comes in and questions the product, or compares and contrasts it to something else. I'd say FSGS has most certainly been one of those products, good or bad, things spin out of control. The threads that remain are the "tame" ones, believe me.-John
